New Nvidia Blackwell chip for China may outpace H20 model

NVIDIA is working on a new slice of artificial intelligence of China, which can be stronger than the H20 model that you currently sell there, according to people familiar with the plans, Reuters I mentioned. The slide will be based on the latest design of the company Blackwell.

Last week, US president Donald Trump suggested that the most advanced NVIDIA chips be sold in China. But the approval is unconfirmed, as US officials are still wary of giving Beijing a lot of access to American artificial intelligence technology.

The new chip, which is referred to internally as B30A, is expected to use one design. This means that all the basic parts of the chip are built on one piece of silicone, instead of dividing in two deaths such as in the pioneering nvidia B300. People familiar with the details said this is likely to give B30A about half of the B300 power, but they are still stronger than H20.

Such as H20, B30A will include high -range memory and NVLINK, NVIDIA technology to quickly transfer data between processors. The final specifications have not been closed, but the company hopes to send samples to Chinese customers to test early next month.

“We are evaluating a variety of products for our road map, so that we can prepare to compete to the extent permitted by governments. All we offer is full approval of the applicable authorities and designed for useful commercial use only,” Nvidia said, in a statement about its strategy for China.

US Trade Minister Howard Lootnick told CNBC The CEO of Nvidia Jensen Huang was paying approval. “Of course he wants to sell a new slice to China,” Lottenic said, adding that Huang often puts the idea directly to the president. “The president listens to our wonderful technology companies, and he will decide how he wants to play it. But the fact that Jensen displays a new chip that no one should be surprised.”

American -Chinese trade tensions grow on NVIDIA chips

The issue of access to the amount of access to which China should be able to advanced artificial intelligence chips from the main tension points between Washington and Beijing. China made up 13 % of NVIDIA revenues last year.

NVIDIA only resumed the sale of H20 in July after American organizers suddenly stopped sales in April. The H20 was designed in 2023 to meet the export rules that restrict the sales of chips on China.

Donald Trump has recently said that NVIDIA may allow the sale of a designed version of the next generation chip in China. As part of a broader deal, NVIDIA and AMD agreed to grant the US government 15 % of revenues from some chips to China.
