26-year-old New Yorker gathers 40,000 TikTok followers in her quest to visit all the city’s museums

But with the documentation of 136 museums since 2021, it still has about 64 museums for its anesthesia. With the opening of new museums and some of the ancient century they change so much that they deserve to be reviewed, the 26 -year -old says she is realistically to complete the project before it reaches 30 years.

“Initially, I started the project for myself to get safe from my home and experience a culture in the city again,” said August, which grew up in Arizona and lived in New York for a period of nine years. She said she was not a big museum before the project started, and was only about seven o’clock at the time.

But when it started, the plan evolved quickly.

“I decided that Tiktok would be a great way to document this so that my friends can keep up with my journey and may discover something new.” Her audience has since expanded with about 40,000 followers on social platforms.

Museums are large and small, Manhattan and beyond

She said that her museums’ visit sparked a new appreciation to New York City, in addition to the expansion of what is offered, especially for those wishing to explore the smaller museums and those in the town outside Manhattan.

And yes, she has a favorite.

“I love the stickers home. It is the first poster in the country, and it has a wonderful and free programming on Friday,” she says about the anonymous museum in largely on Street 23 and Sixth Avenue, which features graphic design and advertising stickers ranging from Nouveau to political propaganda.

Among the others in the list of her favorite dwelling museum in the lower Manhattan and the Museum of Queens, as well as three Brooklyn museums: the Brooklyn Silzer Museum, the New York Museum and the Red Hook Museum of the ball. It also has a soft spot for the Billy Media Center in New York City in the center of Manhattan.

“They have archives with every TV program you can think of. It is amazing,” she said.

Statin Island offers worth riding the phrase

As for the smallest town in the city, the ferry trip to Statin island (free, with views of the statue of freedom along the road) deserves the journey to the pioneers of museums.

The town includes the Nihaus Center for Contemporary Art, as well as Alice Austin’s house, a Victorian Gothic house for the history of LGBTQ+. He was the home of one of the first and most abundant photographers in the country, and is famous for documenting migrant societies in the city.

“You will not imagine that Statin is one of the most homosexual museums in New York, dedicated to a strange photographer, but it is doing it.”

Statin is also home to the Jacques Marshay Museum of Tibetan Art and the Chinese Researcher Park, which claims to be one of the authentic classic Chinese gardens in the United States.

“It is very peaceful and calm, and I love riding the phrase.”

Take advantage of free days and slow hours

Although museums can be expensive, they benefit from the museum’s passes in their local library, and that many museums have days or times in which they are free.

And because its “daily functions” tend to be at night – it works in different places in tickets and production, as well as conflicts – can visit museums in the middle of the week, when they tend to be less crowded.

August has recently become a tourist guide licensed for New York City, and says it gave her a renewed appreciation in both the city and its visitors.

Some of the trends that you adhere to, such as the high programming of museums targeting the younger masses and the trend away from time exhibitions, were seen, which they say make the return visits less tempting.

She said, “Many of us are desperate for the third areas,” referring to a distinguished place from home and work where people can relax or social media. “For many of us, we have hunger to return and visit again, especially when it is free.”

Although the major museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art can be crowded, August says that New York does not face nearly the level of overcrowding as is the case in European cities such as Paris.

At peak and seasons, such as summer, it is good to know that there are many smaller museums to visit.

Seeing the entire city

She said: “I think this is especially important for less well -known museums that often do not get the features of the press or social media,” she said. “There are some small museums that get a huge stumbling block in attendance and pressure after I posted my videos, so it’s exciting to be able to play a small role in this success.”

As for her motives for continuing the project, she said: “It is summarized in people. I have to communicate with wonderful and emotional people who make these museums what they are, and I am in contact with the enthusiasts who want to find something fun on the weekend.”

Anyone who is interested in giving something like this, says it requires a lot of endurance.

“Be ready to go to the corners of the city that you never thought – I am talking about the edges of Bronx and the center of Statin,” she said. “But if you are at the level of challenge, you will likely gain a lot of insight not only museums and their content, but also the societies that serve them.”
