Here are three new apps building out the open social web

Over the past two years, the virtual Fediforum conference presented a glimpse into what is new in the open Internet, with the big news last year betting in Fediverse. This year’s offer was not different, as many developers offer new applications that would help expand the ecosystem of decentralized social networks.

During Fediforum, Bonfire announced that it launches Bonfire Social 1.0 as the first flavor of the platform. Bonfire Social comes with “a previously composed package of Bonfire extensions that determine the features listed”, such as custom summaries, personal files and threaded discussions, as well as the ability to share posts and follow other users.

Bonfire manufacturers work on other “flavors” of the platform, including Bonfire Community, directed towards groups and private organizations, as well as Open Science, a platform designed for cooperation between academic societies. Another new service announced in Fediforum is the channel. Users can customize their summary by tracking the reservation marks and specific users, including Bluesky feedback accounts and RSS parrots. Other users can follow the channels you create, which are distributed via Fediverse, Bluesky and RSS. You can filter some keywords and accounts that are not related to the topics you want to follow, and there are also built -in filters that prevent NSFW content and hate speech.

Channel.org channel is designed on a dedicated MASTODON server run by the NewSMast Foundation, a charitable institution that focuses on its UK -based Fediverse, and it appears to be a great way to create a very coordinated social summary. The service is currently available in a trial version of the invitation only, but you can subscribe to the waiting list to receive updates. You can see some examples of channels from Channel.org.

One of the other prominent services that was highlighted today was bounced, an application that allows you to transfer your Bluesky account to Mastodon, all without losing any of your followers. The application is designed by a new social, and it is the creators of the Fridgy Fed tool that Bounda uses to connect your Bluesky account with Mastodon. Once your account is blocked, Bounda can transfer personal data servers using the “Move” ability provided by Activitypub and Protocol, allowing you to keep Bluesky followers – and the people you follow – when heading to Mastodon.
