China hits back with 84% tariffs on US goods after Trump’s 104% reciprocal duties; New rates applicable from tomorrow

A new round of the customs tariff war between the United States and China.

Just one day after US president Donald Trump signed long -distance duties at the last minute, Beijing responded by slapped a new, high -end tariff. China has announced an additional 84 % tariff for American goods, as of April 10, 2025.

The Ministry of Finance said on Wednesday that China will impose a tariff of 84 % on American goods as of Thursday, an increase of 34 % previously announced.

China has also included a list of 12 American companies for anti -export reasons and added 6 American companies to the “unreliable entity” list, which means that it faces possible restrictions and sanctions in China.

Chinese retaliatory measures have followed the imposition of the Trump administration on a large tariff of 104 percent on Chinese imports. These “mutual” definitions, which aimed at many countries, entered into force on Wednesday, which increased a global trade war, especially with China.

China has pledged “fighting to the end” against Trump’s tariff and has not shown any willingness to negotiate with the White House, unlike many other countries that participate in discussions. Beijing asserts that economic exchanges between the largest economy in the world “almost balance.”

“If the United States insists on increasing the escalation of economic and commercial restrictions, China has the will of the company and the abundant means to take necessary counter measures and fight to the end.”

China has also submitted a new complaint to the World Trade Organization regarding the increasing US tariffs, claiming that the situation was “risingly escalating.” In its statement, China has expressed “extreme anxiety and firm opposition” of American actions, on the pretext that the mutual tariff is not a solution to the commercial imbalance and will eventually harm the United States.

In addition, the Ministry of Commerce announced that it has placed 12 American companies on the export control list and six in the list of unreliable entities, as of Thursday. Companies such as American Photonics and Novotech are now banned from the export of double -use elements. Those listed in the list of unreliable entities, including SHIELD AI and Sierra Nevada Corporation, will be banned from engaging in import and export activities related to China, as well as investments in the country.

Last week, China provided a 34 percent tariff for all the goods imported from the United States, as well as export controls on rare ground minerals and other measures in response to the definitions of “Liberation Day” in Trump. In revenge, Trump raised the tariffs by an additional 50 percent on Chinese goods, declaring that the negotiations have been ended.

The United States continues to report a major trade deficit with China, as it imports much more than it is issued. According to American statistics, Chinese exports to the United States amounted to about $ 440 billion in 2024, or nearly three times the value of US exports to China, which total about $ 145 billion.
