Now that everyone can check… Avengers: Doomsday trailer featuring the X-Men, something quite strange is happening: even the most jaded fans are excited for the next Marvel project. Although it was great to see Professor But there’s something most of these die-hard fans don’t know: This adorable moment directly adapts a similarly impressive scene from an X-Men comic written by canceled geek icon Joss Whedon.
In case you don’t see it Avengers: Doomsday Trailer featuring the X-Men, here’s a quick synopsis: The vast majority of the trailer shows Xavier’s mansion looking abandoned, and the only two people we see inside are a very elderly Professor X and a chess-playing Magneto. At first, Magneto seems to be the main character… not only is it surprising to see him with a big gray beard, but he offers some ominous narrative about how “death comes to us all.” In the end, we see Titan fighting off one or more of the guards, tearing off his visor to unleash the mother of all optic blasts.
Unleash the giant

For long-time X-Men fans, this is the moment that makes you want to stand up and cheer. Cyclops has often been written as being insanely boring, a joke, or both, so it’s great to see him finally show how powerful he really is. But for us, the older fans with long boxes full of comics, this was also a very special moment… after all, that’s exactly what happened in Amazing X-Men (Issue 2), #8, written by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon.
The X-Men as written by Joss Whedon

This issue begins with a psychic attack that wipes out the various psychic personalities of the Wolverine wants to attack the robot’s main frame and take it out, but Cyclops tells him: “There’s no time… I want to get this thing off my lawn.” At this point, he takes off his visor, unleashing a massive optic blast that leaves a giant crater and a guard who can’t help but mutter (just before dying) about his master having ambitious plans that go far beyond a simple robot attack.
To this day, this is probably Cyclops’ coolest moment in X-Men comic history. Even Wolverine is impressed, telling the team leader “Every now and then, Summers… I remember why you’re in charge.” This was one of many great plot points in Joss Whedon Amazing X-Men being; being; He began writing the storyboard in 2004, one year after Buffy the Vampire Slayer finished and eight years before directing it. Avengerschanging the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe forever.
Leave them on red

Obviously we don’t know exactly what’s going on with Cyclops or anyone else for that matter Avengers: Doomsday trailer, but the general beats remain the same as we see them in this fan-favorite comic. X-Man appears to be fighting at least one Sentinel (look closely, and you can see the giant robot walking in the background), and he takes off his mask (which is usually used to restrict his power) to unleash a massive explosion apparently meant to end the battle, just like what happened in Amazing X-Men comic.
It’s impossible to know exactly how much inspiration geek king Joss Whedon inspired for X-Men’s scenes Avengers: Doomsdaybut I have a very good feeling about this visual tribute. No matter how you feel about Whedon, he is a great writer, and he has Amazing X-Men Run is one of the best modern mutant comics ever (possibly second only to Grant Morrison’s). New X-Men). If this preview accurately reflects Avengers: Doomsdayand then we’ll hear something from entire generations of jaded superhero fans that we never thought we’d hear again: “Make me Marvel!”
