Man Accused of Killing GF’s 6-Month-Old Baby Who Died of ‘Severe Injuries’
A Georgia man has been charged with killing his girlfriend’s baby after he told deputies that the 6-month-old had become “unresponsive” to his care, according to authorities.
Willie George Northern Jrof Kathleen, is charged with murder, cruelty to children and tampering with evidence in the child’s death, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Information about the legal representation of the North was not immediately available.
Deputies were called to an “infant not breathing” at a home in Macon on Sunday evening, Jan. 4, where they spoke with Northern, 24, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies learned he made a 911 call.
Northern told deputies he “was watching his girlfriend’s newborn baby” and “feed him, swaddled him and then laid him down to rest,” authorities said.
Al-Shamali said he gave birth to the child, Miles Walkeron an air mattress and took a shower, according to an incident report reviewed by the Macon Telegraph.
After taking a shower, the incident report said he “observed Miles lying face down in bed” and called 911, stating that the child “was having difficulty breathing,” the newspaper reported.
Northern’s girlfriend was said to be away at work at the time.
Eventually, Miles was taken to a children’s hospital, where staff learned the boy “had serious injuries and was in critical condition,” the sheriff’s office said.
Miles was then airlifted to another medical facility, Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, according to authorities.
He had suffered multiple brain bleeds and a broken collarbone, Bibb County Coroner said Leon Jones He told WMAZ-TV.
Miles ultimately died from his injuries two days later, on Tuesday, Jan. 6, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Northern was initially arrested on charges of child cruelty and tampering with evidence after authorities said he was questioned in connection with the child’s injuries.
He was later charged with Miles’ murder, the sheriff’s office said.
Julie HarrellHe, who is the property manager of the Macon home where Miles lived with his mother, told WMAZ-TV that the baby “was very precious.”
“I’m devastated for her and their family,” Harrell added, referring to Miles’ mother.
Next door neighbor to Miles’ mother, Christy HoltShe reacted to the news of the boy’s death and told the TV station: “I am a mother of three children, and as soon as I hear that, I feel like I’m about to cry.”
“I don’t know the circumstances or anything, but this is terrible, it’s really terrible,” Holt said.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Us Weekly.
Northern was supposed to be at his home in Kathleen when he watched Miles, where he was under house arrest, WMAZ-TV reported, citing the Houston County District Attorney. Eric Edwards.
Northern needs permission from a judge to visit his girlfriend’s home in Macon, Edwards said, according to the television station.
Northern was under house arrest in connection with an alleged armed robbery out of Houston County, where Northern and a woman were accused of robbing a man at gunpoint in November 2024, WMAZ-TV reported.
He has since pleaded not guilty in the case, according to the Macon Telegraph.
