what I’d do differently if I were starting my health journey today

Chat about what I would do differently if I were starting my health journey today.

Hello hello! Hello from San Diego! I’m here to do some mastermind adventures and have a good time with my best friend Betsy, which is the best combination.

In today’s post, I wanted to talk about something I’ve been thinking about lately: What I would do differently if I started my health journey today.

What would I do differently if I were starting my health journey today

I’ve gone through some major transition points regarding my health over the years:

– In college, when I first decided I wanted to “get healthy.” I tried everything: different eating styles, workouts, and routines. Some have succeeded… others not so much.

– After a few years of marriage, I stopped taking birth control and realized how much it was quietly masking my symptoms and draining me. I needed daily naps and lived on multiple cups of coffee just to function.

– During my struggles with fertility, when I made big changes in exercise and nutrition and found functional medicine (which was considered a scam in 2009, let me tell you).

– Postpartum, dealing with severe postpartum depression and anxiety.

– Later, when eye problems and autoimmune symptoms began to appear.

And now… I’m here.

Am I perfect? Absolutely not 😉

But I feel better now than I did in college…and it certainly didn’t happen overnight. It took time, mistakes, certifications, experience, and a lot of learning about the nuances and customization.

How to stress less this holiday season

If I were starting over today, here’s what I would do first:

I will stop eating

I had been undereating for years and couldn’t figure out why my hair was falling out, my energy was nonexistent, and my body felt stuck. I wasn’t eating enough protein, fiber, or overall calories, and my body was constantly trying to survive instead of thrive.

I will regulate my nervous system before chasing the protocols

I’ve been in fight or flight mode since I was about six years old until…honestly, just two years ago. I didn’t realize how deeply my nervous system affected everything: hormones, digestion, immunity, sleep. It took therapy, supplements, habits, and a lot of awareness to get out of that state. I still remind myself several times a day: “This is not an emergency.” Most of us severely underestimate how much our nervous system affects our health.

I will test soon

If you’re not testing, you’re guessing…. Guessing becomes expensive. I wasted money on powders and supplements I didn’t need because I didn’t have data. Testing allows you to customize your plan instead of following whatever is trending or loudest online.

I would have done it less often and sought support sooner

I’ve been improving my fitness and nutrition for a long time, especially early on. Looking back, I didn’t need to reinvent the wheel. Learning from an experienced practitioner would have saved me years of trial and error.

This is exactly the clarity I help my clients achieve: faster, without burnout, confusion, or wasted time.

If you’re at the beginning of your journey (or feeling stuck after trying “everything”), know this: You’re not behind, you’re not broken, and you don’t have to do this alone. <3

So tell me, friends: What did you have to learn the hard way? What do you think has had the biggest impact on your health journey and daily routine?

xo
