Your iPhone 18 Pro could get a much smaller Dynamic Island

The iPhone 18 Pro Dynamic Island could soon look a lot less intrusive, if a new leak is on target. A post from reputable leaker Ice Universe says that Apple has reduced the notch width on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max from 20.76mm to 13.49mm, which is a roughly 35% reduction.

This is a meaningful design shift because it’s one of the few pieces of front-facing hardware you notice dozens of times a day. Another post comparing rumors in your screenshots points in the same direction and frames it as a new look versus the iPhone 17 Pro.

There are still open questions, such as how the measurement is made, whether the height also changes, and how close it is to the final production devices. But if this low exposure continues, the dynamic island may fade from the focus point into the background detail.

It’s a measurable change, if it sticks

What makes this rumor seem more concrete than most is its specificity. Instead of a mysterious “smaller notch”, it relies on a subtle display change for both Pro models. However, the screenshots don’t show what the number is based on, such as the prototype in hand, CAD drawings, or early component specifications.

This missing context is important because the existence of class is not just about presentation. A simple change in height or angle shape can change how your eye reads the top of the screen. Until more sources replicate the same dimensions with clearer sources, treat this as a promising data point, not a lock-in point.

How different your screen could look

A slimmer pill would fundamentally change the look of the phone. In bright white apps, images, and web pages, this separation is hard to ignore. Make it narrower and the top bezel will look cleaner, even if you don’t get as much of the usable screen.

It can also push Apple’s own user interface options. Dynamic Island thrives on animation, live activities and quick controls, all designed around a specific fingerprint. If the devices shrink, Apple may tighten how these elements expand and stack so they remain clearly readable at a glance.

What to watch before buying

This is not the type of leak you should base your purchase on just yet. The posts don’t include a timeline beyond the iPhone 18 Pro nameplate, and there’s no confirmation that the variant is set for mass production rather than one of the many interiors.

However, a cut that’s about a third narrower is the kind of modification you see every day. The main checkpoint now is redundancy from other leaks. If the same display claim appears again, ideally supported by parts drawings or several leaks lined up on the same numbers, it goes from “interesting” to “credible.”
