President Donald Trump said he had a “very good call” with Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz on Monday as tensions rose in Minneapolis following the shooting of Alex Peretti by a federal immigration officer on Saturday.

“Governor Tim Walz called me to ask to work together on Minnesota. It was a very good call, and we actually seem to be on the same wavelength. I told Governor Walz that I would ask Tom Homan to call him, and that what we are looking for is any and all criminals they have,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Monday.

Chaos continued in Minnesota over the weekend, including agitators confronting law enforcement at a hotel Sunday evening. Protests and tensions escalated Saturday after Pretty was shot by Minnesota Border Patrol agents.

Federal officials say Pretty approached the agents with a 9mm handgun and resisted disarming them, while witnesses questioned whether Pretty, an ICU nurse, posed a threat to the agents.

“The Governor respectfully understood that, and I will be speaking with him in the near future. He was thrilled that Tom Homan was going to Minnesota, and so am I! We’ve had tremendous success in Washington, D.C., Memphis, Tennessee, New Orleans, Louisiana, and almost everywhere else we ‘touched,’ and even in Minnesota, crime rates are down, but Governor Walz and I want to make it better.” Trump continued in office.

The fatal shooting comes on the heels of the fatal shooting of Rene Judd on Jan. 7, which sparked widespread backlash from Democrats and other critics of the administration that Judd was “murdered” by the government.
