China says US tariff break a ‘small step’ to fixing mistake

The Chinese government said that the US decision to exempt some consumer electronics from the so -called mutual definitions is a small step towards correcting its violations and urged Washington to make more effort to cancel the fees.
The administration of president Donald Trump has excluded smartphones, computers and other electronic devices from the increasing import duties on Friday, which narrowed the scope of 125 % definitions on goods from China and 10 % base line on imports from most other countries.
“This is a small step next to the United States to correct its illegal work of” mutual definitions “unilaterally,” the Ministry of Commerce said in a statement published on the official WeChat account on Sunday. The ministry continued to urge the United States to “take a big step in completely canceling the illegal action, and returning to the right track to solve differences through an equal dialog box on the basis of mutual respect.”
Trump’s latest exemptions cover approximately $ 390 billion in US imports based on official commercial statistics for 2024, including more than $ 101 billion from China, according to the data gathered by Gerard Dybo, assistant director of the Rand China Research Center.

On Saturday, Trump refused to clarify the exemptions outside the published notes, but he alluded to more developments on Monday.
“I will give you this answer on Monday. We will be very specific on Monday,” he told reporters at Air Force One. “We take a lot of money; as a country we take a lot of money.”
The White House also issued an interview note indicating that the exemptions also extend to changes in small shipping duties. Trump has moved to end the so -called “De Minimis”, starting from China, which generally means parcels of $ 800 or less than its duties.
Transient customs tariff may prove. Al -Asfaqidah stems from the initial arrangement, which prevented the additional customs tariffs on some sectors from cumulatively accumulated at the top of the country. The exclusion is a sign that the products may soon be subject to a different tariff, although almost less for China.
Products that will not be subject to the new Trump definitions include machines used to manufacture semiconductors. This will be important for Taiwan SemiDUCTOR Manufacturing Co. , Which has announced a major new investment in the United States, as well as other chip makers.
The notification said: “All products that are classified correctly in these provisions will be excluded from the mutual definitions.”
This step appears to exclude products from the 10 % global foundation tariff for other countries, including the home of Samsung Electronics Co. In South Korea.
