Is ethanol safe for your car’s engine? The Trump administration is allowing Americans to buy cheaper gas with higher blends
The Environmental Protection Agency announced on Monday that consumers all over the United States are still able to purchase E15 ethanol Blend E15 this summer.
Emergency abdication issued by the Environmental Protection Agency prohibits retailers in most states from stopping the sale of E15 gasoline on May 1. While the waiver remains in effect until May 20, the director of the Environmental Protection Agency Lee Zeldin indicated that he intends to continue to issue exemptions until September 15, the date in which the federal government will usually allow E15 sales in all states again.
Most of the sold gasoline throughout the United States is mixed with 10 % of ethanol, but 15 % of the mixture has become increasingly common, especially in the Middle West, where most of the nation’s atom is grown. The E15 gasoline generally costs at least 10 cents less than Galon E10, but the Environmental Protection Agency has previously banned its sale during the summer due to fears that its use during the summer leadership season may increase smoky fog.
But the Environmental Protection Agency has resulted in restrictions on E15, as it gives a series of short -term exemptions in 2022, 2023 and 2024 to allow the country to be sold until summer. Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency issued a base that allows sales throughout the year in eight states in the Middle West-Iowa, usually the best atom producer in the country, as well as Illinois, Minnesota, Misori, Nebraska, Ouyu, and South Dakota and Yiston.
Trump administration officials said that Monday’s procedures will reduce consumer costs and give them more options in the pump with an increased demand for corn. They also described it as reducing America’s dependence on imported energy.

The biofuel and politicians industry in both main parties argue that ethanol helps farmers, reduces prices in the pump and reduces greenhouse gases because fuel burns more clean than straight gasoline.
But ethanol consumes about 40 % of the corn crop in the country, and the environmental protection advocates argue that high corn production leads to a higher use of fertilizers that constitute a major source of water pollution.
Zac Pinsora, pressure groups in Kansas at Sierra Club, said that ethanol plants also use large amounts of water, and countries such as Kansas are anxious about the drain of the groundwater layer. He said that “hypocrisy” was photographing ethanol as environmentally friendly and said that the Trump administration should enhance renewable energy, electric cars, public transport and sustainable agriculture.
“We need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels significantly, but relying on corn -based ethanol does not place our country on the path it needs,” Petsoria said in an interview.
