Chicago’s diocese celebrated the news of the Pope’s election at a press conference on Thursday, in which they participated in some insight about the type of leader Leo.

“Pope Francis was definitely a person who cares about those who live on the sidelines, and who could be easily forgotten. I strongly doubt that Pope Liu would do the same.

Sullivan said Liu “brings a wide range of views”, including “what it means to be born in Chicago, which means that he has been taught here in the United States, what the service means in Peru.”

He said that the previous roles of Leo in the Vatican means that “he has a real practical knowledge of what he means to serve the poor and help those in need” and that he is “familiar with the International Church.”

“You can never deny your roots. So, I’m sure he has love for Chicago, the love of the United States. This is part of his upbringing,” said Father Gregory Sakovic, President of the Cathedral University in Chicago, said.

Sakovic said, “One burning question is the fact that the Pope, Liu on the fourteenth, or Cardinal, then Robert Privost, was born in Chicago on the southern side. Is he a fan of Chicago White Sox?”

Sakovic said he does not know whether Liu is a White Sox lover, but he knows that “he is a fan of the cubs.”

Sakovic said: “I heard that he is a fan of the Cubs. Well, may God bless him, and God bless all the fans.”
