Johnson reaches tentative $40,000 SALT deduction cap deal for Trump’s bill

The Speaker of Parliament, Mike Johnson, has reached an initial agreement with Republican lawmakers in the blue state to enhance the maximum local tax discounts, or “salt”, to $ 40,000 in the so -called “major and beautiful draft law” for President Donald Trump.

The maximum proposed – which rises from $ 30,000 – will be for every family for taxpayers who get less than $ 500,000 a year.

It is still unclear whether the Republican Party militants who oppose raising salt cover discounts will sign the measure.

The initial agreement, which was informed by Politico for the first time and confirmed by Fox News, comes as the Republican Party factions in the House of Representatives participated in high -risk discussions on taxes, the doctor and green energy with the formulation of the “large and beautiful draft law” of the president.

Republicans, who represent these areas, frame the roof of the salt discount as an existential issue, on the pretext that the failure to address it may cost the Republican Party the majority of the House of Representatives in the middle of the 2026 period.

Meanwhile, Republicans representing low -tax countries greatly warn against raising the maximum opponent, believing that it stimulates the policies of high -tax blue countries.
