Instagram users complain of mass bans, pointing finger at AI

Instagram users complained for several weeks of a significant increase in the accounts that are blocked or accidentally suspended. Many suspect, without direct evidence, that problems may be related to the use of artificial intelligence automation.

The comment was reached, Meta has yet to make a recorded statement.

According to an increasing number of social media publications, including sites such as Reddit and X, Instagram users report that their accounts have been banned even though they did not violate the conditions of service or other company policies. In addition, when they resumed to review their account, some claimed that they had not received any response.

Others have indicated that they have no other way to contact the Meta Support team, which leaves them confused about what to do then.

“I have already submitted many appeals, carried my knowledge, and tried to reach Meta through all official channels, but I was completely ignored. It seems as if I shouted in a vacuum,” wrote a user of Reddit (U/Dyrovicious) about a personal Instagram account.

(We must note that Meta provides accounts verified to creators and companies that provide priority for customer service.)

The best posts of Instagram Reddit community focused almost completely on the ban wave and it was weeks ago. On X, users flood the Instagram responses with the company’s appeals to do something about suspending the account or, at least, publicly recognizes the problem. A chance.org seam about the ban is now more than 4000 signatures.

The situation has become so tense that some are now threatening to file a collective lawsuit against Meta for the ban.

Of course, large internet companies will definitely face a certain number of wrong positives due to their dependence on automated moderation systems, which sometimes make mistakes. However, the excessive number of ban is something that becomes a more modern focus – the time when a lot of artificial intelligence may be wrongly.

For example, Pinterest earlier this year was facing a similar problem with collective ban, which witnessed users complaining that their actions and participation did not violate the company’s policies. A group of users also threatened legal procedures on the ban at the time. Pinterest recently admitted that the bloc’s ban was a mistake because of an “internal mistake”, but it would not determine the exact cause. The company claimed that the error was not due to moderation artificial intelligence.

In the case of Instagram, problems not only affect the personal use of the application, but also affect people’s livelihoods, as companies were arrested in the collective ban.

“This is my Rasbati, my job is completely. I relied heavily on Instagram on expected customers,” wrote a user of Reddit (U/Paigejust).

“This ban has directly affected my work, all the hard work and brands that were limited to countless hours in the flow in my work, gym and students,” the owner of the gym in Reddit (U/Courtshaw) participated.

Without accessing the company’s internal data, it is difficult to know whether or not the last ban is an increase in the number of typical positive positives. To date, Meta has not publicly recognized the case.

In addition, some of the affected Instagram users have informed that they are prohibited false due to serious crimes, including CSE (sexual exploitation of children). They pointed out that this is a professional accusation and support of reputation, which makes them very concerned.
