New code in Spotify’s app references the long-awaited ‘lossless’ tier

More than four years have passed since Spotify for the first time announced its plans to launch a sound layer without a loss yet.

After many leaks and stimuli from the company’s executives, we know better than starting the hope that the service that has been postponed for a long time will be on the verge of finally.

But the newly added references in the music application code indicate that the losing service is still under development and can come close to launch.

According to technology and reverse engineer Chris Missina, a number of references appeared to the “loss” in the construction of Wednesday for the Spotify desktop application.

These software excerpts mainly indicate assistance cards that appear to inform the end user of what the layer offers without a loss and how to use or explore the service.

For example, one of the cards, “loss music, is now in Premium”, while the other describes it as “the best sound quality on Spotify for music in up to 24 bits/44.1 kHz.”

Some cards warn users that specific songs are not available in losses or when their device has a bad connection, which may affect operation. Another notes that music without a loss is “the best enjoyment of the devices compatible with Spotify Connect and/or wire devices.”

In addition, the Reddit U/Bendotlc user indicated that other changes were seen in the latest version of the mobile phone application, as the code now mentions a loss: “Say welcome to the best sound quality on Spotify. Listen to high -resolution music at up to 24 bits/44.1 kHz.” Redditor claims that the feature is already in the application, but is currently disabled. Of course, software instructions references do not mean that the unacceptable feature will come any time soon.

As we have seen in previous years, leaks and software references appeared before, however, the sound layer has never reached high quality.

When asked directly about losses and other plans to get distinguished levels on the last profit calls with investors, Spotify Execs, including CEO Daniel Ek, will only hint that the company was investing in the distinguished products of “Super Compan”. They will not give a time frame when launching these options or any other high -quality broadcast options.

Recently, Alex Northrom, the chief business official of Spotify, told investors in the first quarter call of 2025 that Spotify was still investing in more distinguished levels.

“Now, with regard to higher levels, we see great potential in it as we mentioned before,” he said. “So creating higher levels around new offers is something we are working on because it really opens new opportunities to make users happy,” Norstrom said at that time.

When Spotify for the first time announced its plans for Spotify HIFI, as it was then called, in 2021, he said that the service would provide users with music in an unique voice format. “I have taken tests for a losing option in the years before.

In the end, Spotify pointed to the licensing problems as a reason for his delay at all.

In what could be promising news on that front, Streamer signed new deals with stickers including Warner Music and Universal Music Group in early 2025, which can pave the way for the losing layer – or even music lovers hope.

Bloomberg also reported earlier this year that Premium Music Pro later in 2025, which will include high -quality broadcasting, reinstall, and other features.
