Ford CEO says new technologies like AI are leaving many workers behind, and companies need a plan

Despite all the talk about how artificial intelligence transfers our daily life, Ford Jim Farley CEO said that technological developments leave some people behind.
He said at the Asbin Ideal Festival on Friday, in an interview with the author Walter Ishaqoun, that he is the employees of the factory, construction workers and HVAC stabilizers who are “the backbone of our society.” However, the productivity levels of what these workers call the “basic economy” have decreased, even with the increase in new technologies of efficiency and the functions of white collars are 28 % more productive, researching research from the Asbin Institute. Farley also indicated how millions of open roles of the factory, construction and car technician are today that companies are struggling to fill.
“We cannot ignore it,” Farley said, adding: “Amnesty International, battery plants – they all look exciting, but they all need HVAC stabilizers, and they all need electricians. They need welding … What happens if you have to defend yourself – will Google make in other countries.”
Farley said part of the problem is the lack of government spending on vocational training. Farley said that there is not much attention to how to enhance robots and augmented reality to increased productivity of work jobs.
Farley said he expected robots to replace a large number of jobs, but he said he would not come close to millions of open companies that are struggling to fill today.
“Until now, a 10 % robot may be of our operations. With the human robot, it may be 20 %. But it will not be 80 %,” he said.
Farali said that humans do things in factories that are still robots, noting an example of a worker in a Ford plant in Germany, which used a bike and wheel frame with wooden follicles to close the door of a truck stuck to the line.
Farley reiterated that companies need a plan to help the workforce move in this new age of artificial intelligence. But he said that there should be a social transformation of the mentality as well.
“I think we need to return to the basics – to circulate schools – and we need to obtain a society that does not look like this,” said Farley.
During the conversation, Farley put a picture of his grandfather, who joined Ford as an employee every hour, hiring 389. He said, “Look around the room. At some point, almost all your family came from this type of job.”
Farley said it was “very clear” that technology left many Americans.
“We have to admit that these new technologies are great. It will make a lot of people’s lives better, even people in the basic economy. But what will we do as a society for people leaving them with precious human beings?” He said. “We must have a sustainable plan, and we have no plan today.”
