Parliament set to vote on bill to make at least 10 Premier League games free-to-air next season

MPS is scheduled to vote on a proposal that would make at least 10 games in the Premier League available on free TV every season.

Liberal Democrats made an amendment to the Football Governance Governance Bill, which is currently subject to parliamentary review.

This legislation aims to create an independent football regulator that supervises the professional game for men across the five best sections in England, separate from both the government and football authorities.

If it is accepted, the LIB Dem modification will be interested in the new organizer by making sure that the first-class matches-along with the League Cup final and the qualifying finals of the tournament, the first league, and the second league-are shown on free channels access.

Currently, the UK runs the “incidental events” system that guarantees major sporting events, such as the World Cup, the euro and the FA Cup final, accessible to the fans without subscription.

However, the Premier League matches behind the Paywalls have been closed since the formation of the league more than three decades ago, with the only exceptions that were during the epidemic in 2020 when the BBC broadcast a few games.

Libyan Democrats say they are optimistic that the vote will be held on their proposal. The party has long supported the increase in the audience’s access to the main sporting events, last year to reforms to provide more first -class sports without the need for costly television packages.

Their typical model reflects their legislation presented in Spain in 2022, which imposes that at least one match of Liga every week appears free.

“I am urging deputies from all lines to support our amendment to calm the wall and provide the Premier League games on free air channels,” said Max Wilkenson, MP, the spokesperson for the liberal Democrats for Culture, Media and Sports.

“For a long time, the jewel was locked up in the British football crown behind an expensive barrier that keeps fans abroad while the lining of broadcasters.

“That day must end-with a free revolution that brings the English Premier League to the country.”

However, the Ministry of Culture, Information and Sports does not indicate any interest in changing the current framework. A government spokesman commented: “The government does not have plans to review the included events system.”

Despite the vast majority of the Labor Party of the House of Commons, which makes the success of the amendment unlikely, Libyan Democrats hope to beat a number of opponents from other parties.

The Premier League did not provide any comment on the matter.

Football Governance law is now submitting to the report of the House of Commons.

LIB Dems argues that watching all Premier League games currently on the air will cost fans about 660 pounds annually based on subscription rates.
