Tesla partly liable in Florida Autopilot trial, jury awards $329M in damages

Miami Tesla’s jury in Miami Tesla partially found responsibility for the 2019 murderer’s failure to use the company’s Autopilot driver’s aid system. The Prosecutor’s jury granted $ 329 million in punitive and compensation damage.

There is neither the driver of the car nor the automatic system in time to avoid passing through an intersection, as the car hit the SUV and killed one of the infantry. The jury appointed the driver two -thirds of the blame, and a third of a third was attributed to Tesla. (The driver was prosecuted separately.)

The verdict comes at the end of a three -week trial on the accident, which was killed by 20 -year -old Nipple Leon and her 20 -year -old boyfriend Delon Annolo was injured. The ruling is one of the main legal decisions on the technology of the driver’s assistance that passed against Tesla. The company has previously settled lawsuits that involve similar claims about the automated pilot.

“Only to reach the highways that are controlled, but I deliberately chose not to shorten drivers to use it anywhere, besides that Elon Musk tells Autopilot World better than humans,” Brett Shrebar, the main lawyer of the case, told Techcrunch that Tesla designed Autopilot.

“The lies of Tesla have turned our ways to testing its flawed technology mainly, which puts Americans every day, such as Nabel Benefids and Delon Angelo on the Hart Road,” Sherbar said. “Today’s ruling is justice for the tragic death of Naibel and Delon’s injuries for life, as Tesla holds responsibility for supporting the company’s evaluation of a trillion dollars with the noise at the expense of human life.”

Tesla said, in a statement submitted to Techcrunch, that she plans to appeal the ruling “given the major errors in the law and violations in the trial.”

The company wrote: “Today’s ruling is wrong and only works to restore the safety of cars and endanger Tesla and the entire industry efforts to develop and implement life -saving technology.” “To be clear, there was no car in 2019, and there was nothing today, it would have prevented this incident. This was never about the automated pilot; it was a imagination that was prepared by the prosecutors’ lawyers who blamed the car when the driver confessed – from the first day – of acceptable responsibility.”

Tesla and hold years in order to submit claims about the capabilities of the automated pilot that led to excessive confidence in the driver’s aid system, a fact in which government officials have spoken – and he gave himself – for years.

The National Transport Safety Council (NTSB) arrived in this design in 2020 after investigating a crash in 2018, when the driver died after he reached a concrete checkpoint. This driver, Walter Huang, played a mobile game while using Autopilot. NTSB has made a number of recommendations that follow this investigation, which Tesla was largely ignored, later.

At the 2018 phone conference, Musk said “Self -satisfaction” with drivers assisting systems such as Autopilot problem.

“They are accustomed to it. This tends to be more than a problem. It is not a lack of understanding of what the automated pilot can do. It is he [drivers] Musk said at that time:

The experiment was held at a time when Tesla is currently in the middle of the launch of the first versions of the long -time robotics network, which begins in Austin, Texas. These compounds use an improved version of the TESLA most -capable driver, which is called full self -driving.

Update: This story has been updated to include the amount of compensatory damage in total.
