Sam Altman, over bread rolls, explores life after GPT-5

I look at Alcatraz from the Mediterranean Restaurant in San Francisco with a hundred dollars in the list. While talking little with other correspondents, Openai Sam Altman’s CEO is jumping from the door to my left. Altman looks down to its iPhone to show us everything, and my intervention is sliding from my mouth: “There is no bold option phone.”

Of course, he immediately realized that the Openai CEO, who uses Apple Vetern Jony Ivee, is more interested in maintaining the original iPhone design more than $ 1,000 to replace one.

“Listen, we will charge a device that will be very beautiful,” said Altman, referring to Openai and Ive’s Ai Action. “If you put a case on it, I will hunt you personally,” he said jokingly.

Altman collected approximately ten technical correspondents to join and other executives at Openai for a dinner on the record (and sweets outside the registry). Tonight raised more questions than he answered.

For example, why Nick Torley, Vice president of ChatGPT, prefer to pass the sheep after one week of the GPT-5 launch? Was this to make me writing nice things about the largest AI’s launch in Openai until now, which was relatively disappointing due to the noise years around it?

Unlike the GPT-4, which outperformed its competitors and expectations of challenge what artificial intelligence can do, the GPT-5 leads to an equal foot with Google and Noteropic models. Openai has even restored GPT-4O and Televt, after many users expressed their concerns about the GPT-5 tone and the form of the form.

But throughout the night, it became clear to me that this dinner was about the future of Openai behind the GPT-5. Openai executive officials gave the impression that launching artificial intelligence models is less important than it was when GPT-4 was launched in 2023. After all, Openai is a completely different company now, focusing on raising old players in research, consumer devices, and institutions programs.

Openai has shared some new details about these efforts.

Altman said that the CEO of Openai Incoming applications, Fidji Simo, will supervise many consumer applications outside ChatGPT – those that have not yet been launched. Simo is scheduled to start working in Openai in only a few weeks, and it may end up supervising the launch of an artificial intelligence browser provided by Openai to compete with Chrome.

Altman suggested that Openai will even think about buying Chrome – it is likely to be a width that will be taken seriously more than an attempt to be confused – if available. He said before we look at all and ask: “If Chrome will really sell, then we must take a look at it.”

SIMO may also end the management of artificial intelligence-backed social media application-an Openai CEO that Openai CEO said he is interested in exploring. In fact, Altman said that there is nothing “nothing” inspiring about the way artificial intelligence is used on social media today, adding that he is interested in “whether it is possible to build a cooler type of social experience with artificial intelligence.”

While Turley and Brad Lightcap, OpeNai Operations Manager, greatly gave the Earth to Altman, drinking wine alongside other guests sitting, Altman also confirmed that Openai is planning to support starting the computer interface operating in the brain, and merge laboratories, to compete with Elon Musk’s Neuralink. (“We haven’t done this deal yet; I would like that.”)

How this company will be intertwined with Openai models and devices that must be seen. Altman described it only as “a company we invest in.”

Despite all the talk about browsers and brain chips, the elephant in the room remained a rough GPT-5 reception. In the end, the conversation returned to the model that prompted our group dinner in the first place.

Turkey and Altman says they have learned a lot of experience.

Altman said about the neglect of the GPT-4O without telling users: “I thought legally that we have dismantled it,” Altman said about the neglect of GPT-4O without telling users. Altman said that Openai will give users a more clear “transitional period” when neglecting the artificial intelligence models in the future.

Torley also said that Openai is already developing a new update to make GPT-5 responses “warmer”, but not Sycophantic, so that it will not enhance the negative behaviors of users.

“GPT-5 was very very. I love it. I am using the robot-I am German, as you know, whatever it is,” Torley said. “But many people do not, and they love the fact that Chatgpt will actually achieve with you.”

It is an accurate balance of Openai, especially given that some users have developed dependency on Chatgpt. Altman said that Openai believes that less than 1 % of Chatgpt users have unhealthy relationships – which could still be tens of millions of people.

Torley said that Openai has worked with mental health experts to develop an evaluation model for the evaluation of GPT-5 answers, ensuring that the artificial intelligence model will back away from unhealthy behaviors.

However, it seems that the GPT-5 did not harm Openai. In fact, Altman said that Openai’s API traffic has doubled within 48 hours of GPT-5 launch, and that the company is “outside graphics processing units” thanks to all demand.

In many ways, the contradictions of the night-disappointing launch operations, and standard use-reflect the strange Openai reality at the present time.

Looking at Openai’s bets on browsers, brain chips, and AI Chatbots – and other companies that the company manufactures around data centers, robots and energy – it is clear that Altman has ambitions in managing a company much larger than the ChatGPT maker. The final model like Google’s parents can look like, but perhaps wider.

When the night ended, it became clear that we have not gathered to think about GPT-5 at all. We have been placed on a company keen to overcome its famous and controversial product.

It seems likely that Openai will publicly become to meet its huge demands in the capital as part of that image. In preparation, I think Altman wants to refine his relationship with the media. But Openai also wants to reach a place that he no longer set through the best AI.
