Sen. Hawley to probe Meta after report finds its AI chatbots flirt with kids

senator Josh Holie (R-MO) said that he intends to investigate whether the Meta AI’s Gyrocultural products are exploiting, deceiving or damaging children, after the leaked internal documents showed that the “romantic” and sensitive chat with children has been allowed to chat with children.

“Is there anything – anything – big technology will not do for a quick pack?” Holie wrote in a post on X to announce the investigation.

Hawly heads the Senate Judicial Committee on Crime and Combating Terrorism, which he says will begin the investigation if the Meta technology is harmful to children, and “whether dead had misled the public or the organizers about its guarantees.”

Reuters broke the story after watching the guidelines, entitled “Genai: Content Brins”. The document noted, among other things, that Chatbots had been allowed to hold romantic conversations with an 8-year-old child saying: “Every inch of you is a masterpiece-a treasure that I am deeply cherished.”

A Meta spokesman told Techcrunch that such examples are inconsistent with Meta policies and have been removed since then.

“It is unacceptable that these policies be advanced in the first place,” Hawli wrote in a letter to Meta Mark Zuckerberg.

“We intend to know who agreed to these policies, the period in which they were in reality, and what did you do dead to stop this behavior to move forward.”

Holi asked Meta to produce instructions, including every draft, red line, and the final version, as well as the lists of each product that adheres to these standards, safety and other accident reports, and the identities of individuals responsible for changing politics.

He says the message until September 19 to provide information.

Others supported the investigation, including Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tn).

“When it comes to protecting precious children over the Internet, Meta failed miserably according to every possible procedure,” Blackburn told Techcrunch. “Worse, the company has sparked a party to the destructive consequences of how to design its platforms. This report reiterates why we need to pass the online safety law.”
