Obama supports Newsom redistricting to counter Texas gerrymandering

Former President Barack Obama said on Wednesday that he respects the push of California Governor Gavin New Zere to re -divide the departments to add more democratic seats in the blue state.

“I think the New Ruler’s approach is a responsible approach. He said this will be responsible. We will not try to glorify it completely,” Obama said in a collection collection on Tuesday in Marath in Massachusetts.

He added: “We will only do that if Texas and/or other Republican countries begin to withdraw these maneuvers. Otherwise, this does not enter into force.”

On Wednesday’s publication at X, Obama said that Gerrymandering should not be part of the policy. Instead, it should be a “fair battle” between Republicans and Democrats based on competing with ideas.

Changes in Texas and California seats in the House of Representatives can convert control of Congress in 2026. Some analysts say Democrats can get up to five additional seats in California if the newsom plan succeeds, which may cancel republican gains in Texas.

The newsom plan aims to confront a step by Texas on re -dividing circles in Congress before the renewal elections next year.

In Austin, the Republican Party, the Republican Party, resumed the meeting last week in a second consecutive special session called by the conservative Republic Greg Abbott Governor.

Obama wrote on X.

The former leader of the leader said that newsom has launched a “smart, measurable approach” designed to address “a very special problem in a very special moment in time.”
