Microsoft gives free Copilot AI services to US government workers

Millions of American federal government workers are about to obtain a new Amnesty International assistant on their devices for free in the form of Microsoft Copilot. This step is part of a deal between Microsoft and the US Public Services Management (GSA), which is also expected to provide taxpayers 3.1 billion dollars in its first year.

The axis of this huge new agreement is a full year of Microsoft 365 Copilot without any additional cost for government workers who use a security G5 license. This is a boost to get the latest tools of artificial intelligence in the hands of public officials quickly and safely, with the aim of improving how the government works.

Microsoft pushes the United States government to the era of artificial intelligence

This deal aims to put the United States government at the forefront of adopting artificial intelligence. It is a direct response to the plan of artificial intelligence in the administration, designed to bring the power of modern artificial intelligence to everything from the management of citizens’ inquiries to the analysis of complex data.

“OneGov represents a transformation in the model in federal purchases that lead to huge cost savings, which were achieved by taking advantage of the purchasing power of the entire federal government,” explained by FAS Josh Grinbum.

The free Copilot view is specifically for users on the Microsoft 365 G5 plan, and it is the excellent layer of departments that deal with sensitive information and requires most safety protocols. But the benefits extend beyond that, as the deal helps agencies to use artificial intelligence to automate routine tasks, and liberate people to focus on the most important work.

It also makes the agreement cheaper and easier for different departments to update its technology. By providing great discounts on Azure Cloud Services and getting rid of data transfer fees, it deals with a large headache that often slows the cooperation between agencies.

Security is not a later idea

Of course, giving artificial intelligence to reach government systems raises immediate security questions. The deal deals with this direct, as Microsoft confirmed that its basic services and artificial intelligence services have already passed the FedramP High Security license, a decisive standard for dealing with sensitive government data.

While Copilot’s full FedramP certificate itself is expected soon, it has already been given a temporary green light by the Ministry of Defense. The package also includes advanced safety tools such as Microsoft Sentinel and Entra Id to support the security “Zero Trust” security goal.

The deputy director of GSA, Stephen Ikian, encouraged government agencies to take advantage of the new tools.

“GSA in partnership with technology companies, such as Microsoft, is proud to advance artificial intelligence adoption throughout the federal government, a major priority for the Trump administration,” said Ehikian. “We urge our federal partners to benefit from these agreements, and provide government workers with the transformative tools of Amnesty International to simplify operations, reduce costs, and enhance results.”

Helping government agencies to use artificial intelligence effectively

Microsoft also plays the money to ensure that technology is actually using. The company has committed an additional $ 20 million for support and training, including workshops to help agencies to obtain the utmost benefit from new tools and find other areas to reduce waste.

Finally, the package is estimated to offer more than $ 6 billion over the next three years.

“Through this new agreement with the US Public Services Department, including Microsoft 365 Copilot offer without cost, we will help federal agencies use AI and digital technologies to improve citizens’ services, enhance security, and provide taxpayers more than $ 3 billion in the first year alone, ”Satia Nadella, Chairman of the Microsoft Board.
