Amir Khan Calls Out Manny Pacquiao For One Last Fight

Amir Khan called out Manny Pacquiao on X, saying this is “the only one” that will bring him out of retirement. He claims that there was a fight between them “What the fans have always wanted.”

The timing couldn’t be worse

Pacquiao, 46, is already in negotiations to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a rematch, which will be shown on Netflix. The timeframe for that fight is early 2026. Mane said earlier today, October 29, that this will be a “real fight,” not a show.

It is doubtful that Pacquiao would want to jeopardize that fight by taking on Khan, 38, a former IBF and WBA lightweight champion.

Khan (34-5, 21 KO) officially retired on May 13, 2022, and has not fought since. His last fight was against Kell Brook, which he lost by knockout in the sixth round on February 19, 2022.

A battle that never happened

The two fighters were scheduled to fight on April 23, 2017. The fight was canceled in March 2017 after unnamed Emirati investors who were promised $38 million for Pacquiao-Khan’s purse failed to deliver the money.

I’m talking about the 2017 collapse

“Manny wanted to roll the dice. He rolled the dice, and the snake eyes came out,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told the Los Angeles Times about the investor deal that turned out to be fake for the Pacquiao vs. Khan fight in 2017.

Khan chose the wrong time and the wrong fighter to call for a return fight. Not only does Pacquiao have the option of facing Mayweather, but also world champions, Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Mario Barrios. He not only wants to fight Mayweather again to avenge his 12-round unanimous decision loss from May 2, 2015, but also to capture a world title shot.

Khan might have better luck calling up recently retired 37-year-old Vasiliy Lomachenko. He might bite if a prince offered him a fight.

Khan’s last six battles:

  • Kell Brook (February 2022) – TKO loss 6
  • Billy Dib (July 2019) – KO 4 wins
  • Terence Crawford (April 2019) – TKO 6
  • Samuel Vargas (September 2018) – unanimous decision 12
  • Phil Lo Greco (April 2018) – TKO 1 win
  • Canelo Alvarez (May 2016) – 6 KO loss
