A supernatural detective mystery, FMV terror and other new indie games worth checking out
Welcome to the latest report on what’s happening in the indie gaming space. As always, we’ve got a bunch of new games for you to check out this weekend, as well as a new look at some upcoming projects and a release date or two.
But first, I really enjoyed this week’s edition of The GuardianPush Buttons Newsletter. The publication’s video game editor, Keiza MacDonald, wrote about spending a day at the theater playing what feels like the ultimate console passing game with dozens of other people.
The audience was there for the experience The donkeys. The masseswhich is designed for cooperative play. The goal is to help a herd of unemployed donkeys get their jobs back. Audience members take turns picking up the controller, and everyone else in the room can offer advice. It sounds like a great social experiment.
New releases
“It’s spooky season, so of course we had to include some scary rides in this week’s roundup. There was some hype this week Blake Manor Seance From Spooky Doorway and publisher Raw Fury. This is a supernatural mystery detective game in which you investigate the disappearance of a woman in 19th century Ireland.
To solve the case, you’ll have to interrogate suspects and track environmental clues and other clues. You’ll encounter strange events as you investigate a group of mystics looking to speak to the dead on All Hallow’s Eve. The art style is very attractive, and the emotions remind me of him Lorelei and laser eyes and Blue Prince.
Blake Manor Seance Available now on Steam. Regular price is $20, but there is a 10 percent discount through November 10.
Running It is an interactive, choose-your-own-adventure style film produced by PRM Games, Benacus Entertainment and RNF Productions. It’s an FMV experience where you help a fitness influencer (played by Roxanne McKee, who appeared in… game of thrones) She makes decisions and tries to survive the masked figures chasing her in northern Italy. There are 20 possible deaths and about five endings. Legendary giallo director Dario Argento makes a cameo appearance as well.
It’s good to see more FMV games popping up (and we have another one to temporarily highlight). Running Available now on iOS for $10. Coming to Android and Steam soon. You’ll also be able to check it out at Genesis Cinema in London. Two-month stay Running I just started there. The audience votes on the choices using glow sticks.
Solo developer Yannick Audéoud (aka Misty Whale) spent a decade making his first game, OrbisAnd now it’s in the wild. This is a puzzle game that allows you to switch between orbs to solve puzzles – just like in the game cocoon. Instead of a ladybug carrying such balls, you play as an “energy firefly” that can bounce between objects.
Orbis It contains time manipulation puzzles and those involving drones. Audéoud has included accessibility features as well, such as visual cues to represent sound-based mechanisms on the screen. This self-published game is available on Steam. Regular price is $15 and there is a 15 percent discount through November 12.
Death by scroll It is the latest game from Terrible Toybox produced by Ron Gilbert and publisher MicroProse Software. The famous director of the first two Monkey Island games (who has had a hand in many other great games over the years) has created a vertically scrolling roguelite.
The idea here is to survive long enough and earn enough gold to pay the ferryman and escape purgatory. I probably won’t jump into another roguelite for a minute because I’m still recovering from the time I spent with him CloverPit and Ball x holeBut I definitely want to try it Death by scroll At some point. It would normally cost you $8 on Steam, but there’s a 10 percent discount until November 11.
Coming
Here’s another FMV game for you. This is all about taking care of a very good dog.
Golden retriever simple life Features Pichu, the pet dog of developer Pablo Coma (Rablo Games). You will feed, train and play with the dog. Walking and learning tricks are part of the fun too.
There is no release window yet for golden retriever simple life, Which is coming to Steam. In the meantime, you can stay updated on the progress of the game by Developer updates Diary of a good boy from Pichu.
I have seen Eggs on It pops up from time to time and I was looking forward to checking it out. I won’t have to wait much longer to do so as it will be available on Xbox Series It will arrive on Game Pass on day one.
In this micro platformer, you play as an egg (yes, a hen’s egg) trying to escape the farm. Fall too much and… well, you can probably guess what happens. Egobounds is developed by Egobounds Eggs onAlibi Games and IndieArk are the publishers of the game.
anchor It takes the form of games such as Rust and Valheim It plunges you into the depths of the sea in the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust. The multiplayer survival game is set to support more than 150 players per server and there are plans to expand that.
You and your friends will take charge of GMOs and build a base that you must defend against threats such as “failed cloning experiments” and raids from other players. Things will change in this world even when you’re not playing the game, so you’d better make sure your base is safe.
Sharks are a major factor in anchor also. They are not necessarily always hostile. But, just like in real life, they are attracted to blood, so any damage you take could spell doom.
Fearem is a developer anchorwhich does not have a release window yet. I have set a course for steam.
There’s a lot going on in this trailer Agni: Village of Disasterwhich was debuted during the ID@Xbox standalone showcase this week. In this first title from Separuh Interactive, you play as Agni, a detective conducting an unauthorized investigation in a remote village. You’ll have to solve puzzles and fend off monsters while trying to uncover the village’s secrets and find your missing partner.
Agni: Village of Disaster Steeped in Indonesian folklore. The lone big monster speaking in a childish voice is very unsettling. I’m interested in learning more about this survival horror game. Coming to Xbox Series
Let’s wrap things up for this week with a survival horror story. There is often horror in beauty and vice versa (take a look at… Silent Hill FFor example). florist He leans into both, too.
As Jessica Park, you deliver flower arrangements to a lakeside town. But a disaster is taking hold of the area, causing the spread of plants that hunt victims and turn them into monsters. For what it’s worth, the teaser in that last shot of the trailer reminds me of a certain sequence from the movie The Last of Us Part Two.
Unclear Games takes an old school approach here as they use a fixed camera design. You probably know the drill here: solving puzzles and defeating enemies is your only way to survive. Finding information about flower specimens will also be helpful. florist It’s coming to Steam in 2026.
