In the 2017 World Cup final, she was dismissed when India needed 11 off 12, and in 2022, she stopped Mignon du Preez when South Africa needed 3 off 2 in a must-win match, but unfortunately, she was over, and it turned out to be a no-ball.

However, Deepti made no such mistakes in the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and from the first match to the last match, she made tremendous contributions.

In the final, she scored 58 points and returned with figures of 5/39. With this, she became the first woman cricketer to score fifty wickets and take five wickets in a World Cup knockout match. Overall, she became the second Indian to bag a super double in the 50-over World Cup after Yuvraj Singh.

Deepti Sharma finished the tournament with 22 wickets in 9 innings at an average of 20.40 and 215 runs at an average of 30.71. This helped her become the first player – male or female – to score 200 runs and take 20 wickets in a single edition of the World Cup.

Honestly, we still can’t believe this result – Deepti Sharma

Deepti Sharma was awarded the Player of the Tournament award after the win, and speaking to the broadcasters, she said that winning the World Cup feels like a dream. Deepti stated:

“Honestly, we still can’t believe this result. It feels like a dream. But I’m very happy that I was able to contribute in this way today. We always try to take positives out of the game.

“I also have to thank the fans, they came in great numbers today, because they support us in every match. Without them it would not have been possible, thanks to them. As a team, we feel very good after this result. (How do you react to challenges?) I always enjoy any section I am in. Whatever situation I am in, because I like challenges. Today, I got the same thing which is that I have a ball in my hand and a racket in my hand.”

Finally, I would like to dedicate this award to my mother and father – Deepti Sharma

Deepti Sharma also said that she just wanted to play according to the situation in the World Cup final and the entire tournament, and dedicated her award to her parents. She explained:

“I had to play into the situation. And I had a lot of fun. And what better moment than this to be up on stage and playing the role of an all-rounder for your team. It can’t get any more amazing than that. (What was the chat like when Laura was batting well?) I think Laura played it very well, honestly. But we were nowhere near relaxed. We were very laid back. We were always encouraging each other, whenever there was a drinks break.”

“As a bowling unit, we were talking that we have to go all the way until the last ball. We have to focus more on our best ball. And we did the same. (What changes do you want to see for the future?) There have been a lot of changes since 2017. I would say if we play more games from now on, it will be good. Finally, I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mother and father.”
