President Donald Trump issued a “complete and complete” endorsement of Lone Star State Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday.
Abbott, a Republican, launched his re-election campaign at an event in Houston on Sunday.
In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday evening, Trump described Abbott as an “extraordinary governor and man,” declaring that he would “never let you down!”
“Greg Abbott is the powerful, well-respected governor of Texas, a state I love, and he has won three times, including receiving 6.4 million votes in 2024 (the most votes in history, by far)!” Trump wrote.

He credited Abbott’s leadership with successfully passing a mid-decade redistricting bill in Texas that would potentially give Republicans five additional congressional seats in the 2026 midterm elections.
“Thanks to Greg’s bold and effective leadership, the wonderful people of Texas will have the opportunity to elect 5 new MAGA Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections with passage of the new, fair and much improved congressional map – a huge win for Republicans in the Lone Star State and across the country!” Trump wrote.
The president went on to talk about many of Abbott’s priorities, saying: “As Governor, Greg also fights tirelessly to uphold Texas values, grow the economy, lower taxes and regulations, support our amazing farmers and ranchers, advance the United States of America, unleash America’s energy dominance, advance school choice, maintain and secure our now very secure border, stop immigrants, murderers, and other criminals from entering our country illegally, ensure law and order, and protect our brave military,” Veterans, law enforcement, and defense of our forces are always under siege (2nd Amendment).
“Greg Abbott has my full and complete endorsement for his re-election,” he concluded.

Abbott responded to the endorsement by calling it an “honor.”
“Together we worked to secure our borders and defend the values that keep Texas strong. President Trump has always been a champion for Texas,” Abbott wrote, adding, “I look forward to our continued work to build a stronger, safer, more prosperous Texas and America.”
Abbott is seeking a fourth term in the Lone Star State. At his campaign launch on Sunday, Abbott outlined a comprehensive plan to reform the property tax, addressing what has become one of the state’s most pressing hot-button issues.
“It’s time to pay the share by raising local property taxes once and for all,” Abbott said. “We will turn the tables on local tax authorities, put power in the hands of the people, and put an end to out-of-control property taxes in Texas.”
Despite much speculation that Texas is turning purple or even blue in recent years, Abbott has won each of his previous three elections by decisive margins. In 2022, he defeated the rising star, former Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, by more than ten percentage points.

In an interview with Fox News Digital in October, Abbott, whose National Guard troops were deployed to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Chicago, revealed the “core reason” he had a good working relationship with the president: “We both believe in the rule of law.”
He explained: “President Trump and I have a good, long-term working relationship, and there is a fundamental reason behind that. We both believe in the rule of law. We both believe in public safety. We both believe in securing the border.”
Abbott said he and President Donald Trump are “working very closely to ensure that our country is safe.”
Abbott stressed that the Trump administration shares a common vision with Texas, making it a suitable partner.

Although he did not give any indication of what further cooperation Texas might do with the Trump administration in the future, he said that Texas remains prepared for whatever is required.
“No one can accurately predict what will happen in the future. What I can predict is how Texas will respond. This means that whenever the country is in a time of need, Texans will step up and help in any way they can.”
