Liverpool urged to replace Van Dijk with Micky van de Ven

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is in the twilight stages of his career and will need to be replaced in the future.

He has a contract with the club until 2027, and is already 34 years old. Liverpool must start planning for the future without him. According to Khaled Boulharouz, Micky van de Ven could be the ideal replacement for the Liverpool star.

Micky van de Ven was excellent

The Netherlands international has been exceptional since his move to Tottenham, and has shown that he has the qualities needed for the biggest club in the world. However, he has a long-term contract with the north London club and they are unlikely to agree to his departure anytime soon.

It will be very difficult for Liverpool to convince him to sell the player. They may have to pay more than necessary in order to convince them.

There is no doubt that the Dutch international is a good player, and has the potential to elevate Liverpool’s level. The chance to join the Premier League champions could be tempting for him too. But convincing his club will be difficult.

“I think he is the ideal successor to Virgil van Dijk, both for the Dutch national team and for Liverpool,” Boulahrouz explained to ESPN NL.

“The question is, of course, what Virgil will do after the World Cup. When you play in the Premier League for years, your body takes a hit. You might start to want to take things a little easier.

“And Liverpool are not crazy: if you are looking for a world-class left-back and have enough money, you will quickly end up with Van de Ven.

“The same applies to the Dutch national team. I think Koeman realized long ago that Van Dijk’s successor already exists.”
