A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Bangladesh on The third day of the ongoing second test between Bangladesh and Ireland at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, temporarily halting play and causing chaos in the stands. The tremors were felt around 10:38 a.m. local time, prompting players, referees and spectators to rush for safety.
The earthquake, whose epicenter was located in Madabdi, about 40 kilometers east of Dhaka, caused severe panic in the stadium. Both locker rooms were empty, as players and officials hurriedly took to the field in search of open space. Fans were seen in the stands impatiently searching for exits, with many choosing to leave the field. The media center located at the north end of the stadium was also quickly evacuated.
Some players were seen looking at the floodlights, worried that they might be swayed by the tremors. The quake, which also affected parts of Kolkata and Guwahati, was reported as a 5.7-magnitude earthquake, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), and was felt across most parts of Bangladesh and northeastern India.
After a three-minute pause, play resumed, with Ireland at 165/5 by the 56th minute. Despite the initial shock, the game continued and the players regained their composure. Ireland lost two more wickets during the resumed session, and by lunch on the third day, the score was 211/7 in reply to Bangladesh’s total of 476 runs. While the earthquake caused temporary disruption, players and officials quickly refocused, and play continued in a tense but determined atmosphere.

Bangladesh dominate and take a 253-run lead at tea on day three against Ireland
Bangladesh asserted their dominance in the ongoing second Test against Ireland in Dhaka, extending their lead to 253 runs at the tea break on day three. After posting a massive first innings total of 476, the hosts were able to bowl out Ireland for 265, despite a gallant 75 from Lorcan Tucker. Bangladesh bowlers led by Tigol Islam and Hassan Muradgave disciplined performances, and picked up several wickets.
At tea, Bangladesh were comfortably placed at 42/0 in the second innings, with Mahmoud Hassan Joy and Shadman Islam Undefeated, racing towards a leadership position. Ireland’s response was thwarted as they lost wickets in bunches throughout their innings. They reached 175/5 at one point but were unable to build on the momentum, ultimately falling short of the follow-on target. The home side will now look to apply pressure and accelerate their lead with the bat after tea.
