New details are emerging about the cause of Celeste Rivas’ death

TMZ reports that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner likely won’t be able to determine a cause of death due to the condition of the 15-year-old’s remains. Sources told the outlet that all parts of her body were “partially frozen” and the trunk of D4VD’s abandoned Tesla had been thawed out.

Investigators found Rivas’ body, dismembered and in “horrific condition” inside the trunk of the car on September 8. As a result, the cause of death is “likely undetermined,” TMZ reported.

D4VD, real name David Anthony Burke, is now viewed as a suspect in the death of Celeste Rivas. According to TMZ, law enforcement officials are treating Celeste’s death as a homicide. Authorities believe Burke may have played a role in the teen’s killing.

Following this development, LAPD investigators also identified a second suspect in connection with the murder of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. TMZ founder Harvey Levin and attorney Mark Geragos revealed on their podcast that the second suspect likely did not kill the teen but is suspected of helping dismember her remains. No arrests have been made at this time.

Investigators are working to connect the dots using a combination of mobile phone data, Tesla car data, and location information from social media. TMZ reported that investigators discovered that the “Romantic Murder” singer took a late-night trip to a remote location for several hours in the spring of 2025. Geragos believes these details may be crucial to the case.

Celeste Rivas was 13 years old when her family last saw her in 2024. Investigators have not confirmed her relationship with the 20-year-old musician. However, Celeste’s mother told TMZ that she has a boyfriend named David. D4vd’s Tesla sat parked for days on a Hollywood Hills street near his rented home. Tow workers eventually removed the car, leading police to discover Celeste’s body in the trunk.
