Mixed fortunes for Rangers and Celtic as Lyon hit six

Find out the results of today’s matches in the European League…

The Europa League is back with 18 matches on Thursday evening, and plenty of action to get involved in!

Two Premier League teams were playing that night. Aston Villa were given a scare by the Young Boys, but managed to get over the line, winning 2-1.

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest achieved a 3-0 victory over Malmo, on a night in which the hosts were not forced to come out of high alert.

Rangers and Celtic were also involved, although their fortunes were mixed.

There was no shortage of goals during the matches, and we had our fair share of drama along the way.

You can find the best action from the Europa League below, plus full results for all 18 matches.

Feyenoord vs Celtic: The Scots make history in Europe

Celtic ended a long wait for an away win in Europe, beating Feyenoord 3-1 in Rotterdam for their first such result in four years.

The hosts took the lead first through Ayase Ueda in the 11th minute, finishing from close range after Sime Steen’s pass across the penalty area.

Celtic responded well and equalized in the 30th minute, with Ryo Hatate crossing to the back post for Young to fire home.

The shift was completed just before the break. Daizen Maeda put pressure on goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther, made a mistake, pounced on the ball and passed the ball to Hatate to score into the open net.

Feyenoord improved after the restart and pushed for a response, their best moment coming when Jordan Lutomba met a cross at the back post and saw his header cleared off the goal line by Callum McGregor.

The visitors settled the points eight minutes before the end of the match. Maeda tackled Wellenreuther near the sideline and cut the ball back to Benjamin Nygren, whose shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced over the goal line to make it 3-1.

Rangers vs Braga: Booing erupts at Ibrox

Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox by Braga, despite enjoying a numerical advantage for most of the second half.

The Scottish side took the lead just before half-time, with captain James Tavernier scoring a penalty after a handball from Fran Navarro inside the box.

Rangers struggled earlier and goalkeeper Jack Butland made two saves to preserve the tie.

Braga were reduced to ten men on the hour mark when Rodrigo Zalazar was sent off for a header on Raskin, leaving Rangers in a promising position for their first Europa League win of the season.

However, a defensive lapse allowed Braga to get back into the game, with Jabri Martinez capitalizing on a mistake by Deja to equalize in the 69th minute.

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs Lyon: The hosts hit for six goals

Lyon produced a dominant performance away to Maccabi Tel Aviv, securing a 6-0 win in a one-sided encounter.

The French team took the lead early in the fourth minute through Abner Vinicius, before Corentin Tolisso added the second goal in the 25th minute with a header from Abner’s cross.

Tolisso scored again from close range five minutes later, and Moussa Nyakhate then scored from the penalty spot in the 35th minute to make it 4-0 by halftime.

The second half witnessed Lyon continuing its continuous attack, as Tolisso completed his hat-trick in the 53rd minute, and Adam Karabic added the scoring in the 62nd minute.

Porto vs Nice: The Portuguese team seeks victory

Porto easily beat Nice 3-0, finishing the match in complete control at the Stade do Dragao. The Portuguese team scored in the first minute, as Gabri Vega scored the first goal from close range after a pass from Pepe.

Porto maintained their early dominance and doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark, Vega once again positioning himself in the middle when he met Viktor Froholdt’s shot and slotted high into the net.

Nice struggled to create anything clear in response, with their best efforts coming through Sofiane Diop and Terem Moffi, both of whom missed the target.

The visitors’ hopes were further diminished at the start of the second half when Samu Ajehwa was awarded a penalty and then coolly converted to make it 3-0 on the hour mark.
