When Photoshop Gets Smoother – And Wack-Cool – With AI’s “Banana Boost
You know that image you have of the day when Photoshop might work like the computer in Star Trek?
Choose a lighting, for example, snap your fingers and there you go: it changes the shadows; moves things around; Cleans up text. Hell, maybe even turn your drawing into something resembling a finished poster?
Well, that moment might be now. Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Firefly have just received a massive upgrade: Nano Banana Pro – the new image production/processing model running on Google’s Gemini 3.
The integration means that from now on, creators working in Firefly or Photoshop can borrow some of the Nano Banana Pro’s capabilities for smoother, high-resolution AI-generated visuals.
Adobe is also allowing unlimited image creation via Firefly and its suite of partner templates — but only for a limited time (until December 1, 2025) for paying Creative Cloud Pro and Firefly subscribers.
What’s new under the hood? The model offers sharper resolution – at least up to 4K – and better handling of text, layout, lighting and composition.
You can throw him a diagram, a prompt, or maybe some reference photos, and come back with something polished.
It’s a hell of a leap over its predecessor (Nano Banana/Gemini 2.5) that already set tongues wagging – but now we’re getting full pro features here.
Likewise, if you’re creating mockups, posters, infographics, or anything else with complex text and layouts – this can also save a lot of your design time.
Think about being able to produce images, ads, or mood boards for social media with a few quick changes, instead of fiddling with layers all day.
Firefly lets you upload up to six reference images, transform them together, change angles, edit lighting — or simply create from scratch using a prompt.
On a macro level, this appears to be an inflection point for creative tools. Creating images with AI is no longer just a side hustle or a “fun experience.”
And with players like Adobe and Google doubling down on their efforts, it’s poised to be a key part of the way visual content is produced. Independent artists, marketing people, small studios – this could be a game changer.
However, some questions remain. Endless generation is an exciting prospect for a limited time – but what’s coming on December 1? Would imposing caps on usage limit their appeal?
AI-generated images also don’t capture style any better, and have a long way to go compared to real-world conceptual art; Will you succeed in high-risk business or branding versus man-made consistency?
All of this means I’m being cautious. For me, I’d use the Nano Banana Pro for a quick mockup or campaign poster – just see how close it gets me to something I wouldn’t actually spend hours on.
I can look at some early user demos if you’d like and see what works – and what still looks a lot like AI.
