NFL fans react as C.J. Stroud returns from concussion protocol for Texans vs. Colts Week 13 game

Houston Texans fans finally got a positive update on C.J. Stroud’s injury. According to a tweet by the NFL’s Adam Schefter, coach DeMeco Ryans said Friday that the quarterback has been cleared from concussion protocol.

Therefore, Stroud will reclaim the starting quarterback job from Davis Mills during Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

“Texans HC DeMeco Ryans told reporters that CJ Stroud, who has missed the last three games while out in concussion protocol, will start Sunday against the Colts,” Schefter tweeted.

Fans on social media shared their reactions to the news that the Texans’ quarterback is finally back from a concussion. One fan highlighted how Stroud will lose to Colts QB Daniel Jones, who is also reportedly playing through a fractured fibula.

“Losing to Danielle Jones on one leg,” one fan commented.

Here are some other reactions:

“Big boost for Houston. Fully clearing Stroud means the Texans regain the efficiency and passing explosiveness they lost – they were top-five in EPA/pre-protocol play. The Colts defense has been vulnerable to accurate QB attacks all year, so this matchup becomes much more competitive,” this fan said.

“Good news for Houston, but Stroud’s return so quickly raises questions. The Texans need him, but concussion recovery isn’t linear — one bad hit can reset everything,” this fan commented.

C.J. Stroud suffered a concussion during their 18-15 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 9. Davis Mills was brought in as his replacement in attack. In the three games he started, he won all three while recording 879 passing yards and five TD passes in five games.

The Texans currently sit third in the AFC South behind the Jaguars and Colts with a 6-5 record and three straight wins.

CJ Stroud is excited to be back on the field

CJ Stroud is looking forward to Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts. He spoke about his excitement to return as the starting quarterback after missing the Texans’ past three games.

“I’m grateful to finally be back,” Stroud said, according to ESPN. “I’m grateful for all the invitations… Coming out wasn’t fun, I wanted to play really bad. I wanted to get back out there, but we put ourselves in a great position.”

The Texans drafted CJ Stroud with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. In the last two years, he has led the team to back-to-back playoff appearances. This season, Stroud has recorded 1,702 yards and 11 passing yards in eight games.

The showdown between the Texans and Colts is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET.
