Samsung’s Z TriFold is official and it looks like a tablet with a phone attached

Samsung officially announces the Z TriFold, a long-awaited foldable phone with not one, but two It stops. It will debut in Korea on December 12, and is scheduled to launch in the US in the first quarter of 2026. There’s no price yet, but if the single-hinge phone costs $2,000, you can probably start saving your money. Pennies Nickel for this one.

The TriFold’s internal display measures 10 inches diagonally, with a resolution of 2160 x 1584 and an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz up to 1Hz. That’s a lot of screen. You can run three apps vertically side-by-side on it, and even use Samsung’s DeX desktop environment in standalone mode without a separate screen. On paper, the TriFold’s external display looks a lot like the one on the Z Fold 7. It’s a 6.5-inch 1080p display with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

Each of the three TriFold panels has a slightly different thickness. The center panel is the thickest at 4.2mm thick, and has a USB-C port on the bottom edge. The thinnest panel is just 3.9mm thick, including the actual SIM tray, and the other panel is 4.0mm thick. These two sides fold inward over the center panel, unlike the Huawei Mate XT, which folds in a Z-shape and uses part of the inner screen when folded.

The TriFold measures 12.9mm thick when folded, which is 4.7mm thicker than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. It’s also thicker than the Z Fold 7, which measures 8.9mm when folded, but it’s not far behind the previous Z Fold 6’s 12.1mm.

Although it folds differently, the Z TriFold is very close in size and weight to the Huawei Mate XT and the latest XTs. The Z TriFold is slightly thicker when folded – 12.9mm versus 12.8mm – and weighs 309g compared to the XT’s 298g.

The back panel is a “glass-ceramic fiber reinforced polymer” designed to resist cracking. The device’s hinges come in two different sizes, both of which are a dual-rail design protected by a titanium cover. Like Samsung’s other foldable devices, the TriFold has an IP48 rating — it’s fully waterproof, but not dust-tight.

With everything going on inside the TriFold, Samsung still managed to squeeze in three rear cameras: a 200MP f/1.7 wide-angle; 12MP ultra-wide; And a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera. Both the cover display and the inner display include a 10MP selfie camera as well. Each of the phone’s panels also houses a 5,600 mAh battery. Everything is powered by the Galaxy’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, like the S25 series, and includes 16GB of RAM.

One thing I am no See the TriFold spec sheet? Compatibility with the S Pen. Samsung spokeswoman Elise Sembach confirmed Edge via email that the TriFold lacks support for the company’s Bluetooth stylus. The Z Fold used to include stylus support, but that ended with the latest Z Fold 7. Meanwhile, Samsung isn’t sharing the cost of the TriFold – either in Korea or in the US.
