Wirtz and Isak shine vs Tottenham

Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday evening, continuing their recent improvement with a third successive win.

The Reds certainly had some gift from Tottenham, who were reduced to ten men in the first half after a stupid and reckless challenge from Xavi Simons on Virgil van Dijk.

Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekiteke then scored for Liverpool to give them what should have been a comfortable lead, but Richarlison pulled one back and made things tense late on.

Overall, though, Liverpool’s players can be happy with their performance in what is always a tough away game.

Liverpool player rating in the 2-1 win over Tottenham

Alisson Becker – 7.5 – This wasn’t exactly the best Spurs team Alisson would face, but he did a good job of making four saves in total, even if there wasn’t much he could do to Richarlison’s late shot, which was down to poor defending.

Connor Bradley – 6 – Some good moments going forward, but Connor Bradley still looks a bit inconsistent at this level, while an injury problem meant he was substituted at half-time anyway.

Ibrahima Konate – 7 – He put in a solid performance for the most part, better than some of the games he’s played this season, although he was a little disappointed by getting an unnecessary yellow card.

Virgil van Dijk – 7 – Mostly nice control in defense and threat in the air from set pieces for Liverpool, although poor ball kicking late on allowed Richarlison to score.

Milos Kerkez – 6 – A solid if unspectacular display from Liverpool’s left-back, who has slowly but surely become more reliable after a difficult start to life at Anfield.

Ryan Grafenbrech – 8 – The reliable master of Liverpool’s midfield, it was once again a brilliant all-round display from Ryan Gravenberch as he fought for every ball and kept going.

Curtis Jones – 6 – Solid performer since coming into the team, but perhaps a bit cautious with his passing, often choosing the safe option when he could be doing more to help push the team forward.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 7 – Once again, he is a key player for Liverpool as he continues to be one of their best performers this season, although he has understandably contributed less when asked to fill in at right-back once again.

Alexis McAllister – 6 – He’s not bad, but he’s not at his best either, lacking the kind of spark and quality he’s usually able to show with his passes and shots.

Florian Wirtz – 8.5 – Perhaps his best performance in a Liverpool shirt, with a brilliant assist for Isaac’s goal. Wirtz finally looked like a major threat throughout this game as he was statistically the player of the match, according to WhoScored.

Huge Ikitiki – 8 – Hugo Ekiteke, a man in fine form in front of goal, did his job again with a neat header to make it 2-0 shortly after Isaac’s first goal. He is a real threat up front, having scored five goals in his last three Premier League appearances.
