Consumers stock up on alcohol as Trump threatens massive tariff on EU wine, liquor

Spirits can be high soon-at least this is a source of concern for some alcohol buyers who shop in a family-owned grocery store.

Blake Leonard, head of Stew Leonard’s Wine and Spirits, said on Monday from Fox that President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 200 % tariff on European alcohol imports had inspired some shoppers to go to a possible rise in prices and store their favorite drinks.

Trump released the threat of customs tariffs after the European Union recently announced that it will continue to a 50 % tariff on American whiskey, and partially writes on the social truth that placing customs tariffs on European drinks “will be great for wine and champagne companies in the United States”

His threat comes amid a wave of other definitions imposed and customs tariff proposals.

The proposed definitions on European alcohol products will target popular elements such as French and Italian wine, and may push American consumers to think about wine and lives locally produced.

For example, Leonard carried a bottle of European champagne, which usually sells about $ 60. California’s sparkling wine sells about half of the price.
