Children who are supplied by reaching smartphones before the age of 13 are in a new study, likely to suffer from severe mental health problems.

Posted in Journal of Human Development and Capacity, This new paper from an emerging nerve science company called Sapien Labs was found that among the current youth in the Zil Z, the first generation that grows with smartphones, the younger who started to use tools, and the worse the results of mental health.

Using a longitudinal data from the Mind Global project, I found a huge database of mental health collected by the Sapien, a team led by the company’s founder and chief scientist Tara Thiajarajan that from more than 100,000 from 18 to 24 years old, they contented themselves with, as they followed the results they were exposed to.

In the same group, girls reported a decrease in self -image, self -esteem, confidence, and emotional flexibility, and boys were less quiet, stable and emotional compared to their counterparts who got their first smartphones when they were over the age of 13.

This era in particular is important because, such as the biographies and the call, such as waiting until the eighth insistence, children are not nervous or developmental to be exposed to social media on personal devices until they are 13 years old.

The study leader told CNN.

The Tajaran also explained in a press statement, there are many factors that lead to the results of the new Sabine, including “access to social media, electronic bullying, disrupted sleep, and bad family relations.” She said that these factors lead to severe mental health symptoms that stop traditional diagnoses, and “can be missed through studies using standard examination.”

In addition to advising parents not to give their children their smartphones up to at least 13 years, Thiajaran and their team are boldly called for global policy makers to “adopt a precautionary approach, similar to alcohol and tobacco regulations, by restricting smartphones to be less than 13 years, assigning digital media education, and enforcing the company’s account.”

We have already seen the latter when the CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg moved to the Senate in early 2024 to apologize to the families of children affected by his social network – although his statements left a lot of desirable.

In addition to the calls to work, this study adds to an increasing set of evidence that smartphones are not only “bad” for children, as many lodite will swing, but they can have real and severe mental consequences for them.
