After Shopify bought his last startup, Birk Jernström wants to help developers build one-person unicorns

“In 2011, we started Tictail with the task of enabling anyone to start an online store. We launched in 2012 and soon launched. Within two years, we were home to 100,000 merchants on the platform, largely on the long tail,” Gertterom said.

With the realization that young merchants need more traffic, TICTAIL developed a market that eventually made it a target for Shopify. The TICTAil competitor grew much larger than the largest merchants. But after the public subscription, the Canadian company saw the need to look alongside the consumer of things, and believed that the Tictail team could help.

Along with its founders and many of their employees, Jerntröm joined the newly created Shopify store team. “This has become in the end what is now known as the application of the store and the ecosystem that drives the store that I am honored to be part of the building from zero to one, and expand.”

But in 2021, when he was about to become a father for the first time, Jernström passed a period of self -thinking. This ultimately led him to resign from his distant role to know his next step, which turned out to be polarity.

The division was completely friendly, to the extent that the CEO of Shopify Topias Lütke and Harley Finkstein now support Polar as angels. The “obsessive merchant” culture that they built in Shopify was also on Jernström as well.

He said: “Answer more than 50 or 60 support tickets per day. I know every customer we work with, which is a little crazy, but I just like to understand their next steps on their journey, and what Polar can do to make this easier for them.”

Understanding its customer base and being open source helped to gain traction with the target users. Since its launch in September 2024, a startup has grown to 18,000 customers, most of them developers control the software.

This is also reflected in its maximum schedule, which is characterized by project owners behind the famous developer tools: Framer and Raycast, both of which are integrated with Polar; Dub, NUXT, Resend, Supabase, Vercel, and Workos; And loved, which is shared in the roots of Swedish Polar and focus on facilitating a building.

Now, they support Jerntröm’s ambition to make building business on easy programs like platforms like SuPabase and Vercel make it build the program itself and expand its scope.
