Puerto Rico Supreme Court allows nonbinary gender marker X on birth certificates

The Supreme Court of Puerto Rico reached a decision to allow non -two -year -old people who are not identical to updating their birth certificates.

This procedure has taken six non -two -born individuals in Puerto Rico who filed a lawsuit claiming that “the current birth certificate policy in the Commonwealth violates the right to protection equality in the fourteenth amendment of the United States constitution, according to the court’s presentation.”

The court’s decision now will allow people who know that they are insecure or non -sexy who do not comply with X as a sexual mark on birth certificates.

In the deposit, the court explains that there will be no rational basis for rejecting the request.

“The current birth certificate policy of the Commonwealth Portorico is an arbitrary distinction between bilateral and non -basic individuals and non -essential individuals for ignition, without any justification for doing this. In such cases, it is the duty of federal courts to guarantee equal protection for all persons under the law.”

Pedro Giulio Sirano, President of the LGBTQ+ Federation, described the referee on Friday as a historic supporting equality, according to Associated Press.

In the case, the defendants opposed the request, arguing that “the Community Portorico government has a legitimate interest in preserving the vital records and statistics related to its citizens.”

He argued that this argument ignores the fact that the Commonwealth already allows its citizens to amend information about their birth certificates, including the gender brand modification.

Legislators have already enacted legislation to ensure the preservation of original and unchanging birth certificates by the state.
