Alberto Moleiro transfer eyed by Arsenal this January

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Villarreal attacking midfielder Alberto Molero and could move for him next January, as first reported here in the Daily Briefing.

The talented 22-year-old player has caught the attention in the Spanish League recently, first with his former club Las Palmas, and now with Villarreal, which he joined in the summer.

Arsenal have long been admirers of Molero, and Arteta is now looking to make another major investment in his squad next January due to concerns over injuries and a hectic fixture schedule.

Molero is seen as ideal to help Arsenal ease the workload on players like Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, with this side already plagued by several injuries so far this season.

Industry sources suggest this looks like a realistic saga to watch for January, even if Villarreal do not want to sell Molero so soon after signing him.

The Spain Under-21 international could cost at least €35m, but one imagines that would be within Arsenal’s reach.

“Arsenal have been monitoring Molero for a while,” a source told me this morning. “It is seen as a long-term goal, but there is now a feeling that they can push things back to January due to the sheer number of injuries they have had.”

Another added: “Mikel Arteta really likes Molero and is aware of Arsenal’s busy schedule. Player to watch in January for sure.”

Do Arsenal need more depth to win the title?

Arsenal have coped well so far despite numerous injuries due to the sheer depth of their squad.

However, it appears that Arteta still has some concerns, which is not too surprising after very bad luck with the fitness of key players.

Saka and Martinelli have missed a lot of games this season and last season, so at least one more signing may really be necessary to really help this team in the second half of the season.

Mulero looks like a good option, and his age means he will also be an option for the future as well as the present.
