Ares Actor A Starring Role In The Disney Movie

“Tron: Ares” is not a good movie. It lacks soul, it lacks lively digital jazz, it’s complex, and it’s overly reliant on audiences for whom simple 3D printing is revolutionary. This is just a mindless movie led by a completely uncharming lead actor that has proven to be box office poison.

However, there are some good things in Joachim Rønning’s latest entry in the “Tron” series, starting with a great Nine Inch Nails soundtrack and some beautiful visuals. There’s also the fact that most of the supporting cast are very good, including one actor who steals every scene he’s in, Arturo Castro. Castro plays Greta Lee’s hilarious right-hand woman Eve Kim, the head of toy company ENCOM. It turns out that Castro got the role thanks to a fairly good movie trailer.

It turns out it all boils down to the brief appearance of Castro’s comic performance as Moe, a biker gang member in the trailer for the Jake Gyllenhaal-led Road House remake that made such an impact. Such a powerful influence, in fact, is what prompted Jake Gyllenhaal’s agent, Brent Morley, to recommend Castro to one of his clients — “Tron: Ares” producer Jared Leto. It was Leto who decided to defend Castro’s choice of Ronning.

“[Morley] He went up to Jared and said, “Take a look at this trailer for Road House.” I think you guys are going to want to see this guy. “It meant the world to me for different reasons,” Castro told The Hollywood Reporter. “Frankly, he had nothing to gain from it.” I was actually at William Morris, and he’s not my agent. But he saw someone who had gone out of his way to make a good impression at the Road House, and he thought it was worth giving me a chance.”

Arturo Castro improvised one of his best moments in Tron: Ares

Arturo Castro, also known for the Comedy Central series “Broad City,” is no stranger to strong dialogue and impromptu jokes on set. Arguably the funniest joke in “Tron: Ares” (although there aren’t many) is thanks to Castro’s comedic talents. As the actor told The Hollywood Reporter, he came up with the joke where Seth calls Flynn’s first-generation computer in the ENCOM office a “piece of trash,” before quickly calling it back when Leto’s Ares doesn’t appreciate the joke and adds, “That was very insensitive towards your ancestors, and I’m very sorry.”

This improvisational skill has served Castro well in the past. Not only was he one to watch in “The Menu” as Mal’s brother, but he also stole the show in the “Road House” remake as the surprisingly believable henchman Moe, a highlight of the enjoyable but disappointing film. Castro also put his improvisational skills to good use in the Amazon Studios remake. As he told Vulture, the actor decided early on that Moe would simply be honest throughout, so when Jake Gyllenhaal’s character confronted him early in the film for scaring some people and asked him about his bike, Moe didn’t hesitate and immediately responded enthusiastically. The lesson is clear: even if a movie is “good,” Castro will always deliver the goods.
