AstraZeneca opens $300 million cell therapy manufacturing plant in Maryland

Astrazeneca, as part of its continuous investment of $ 3.5 billion in American innovation, has opened the first cell treatment factory in the United States in Maryland to help treat cancer patients.

The UK -based drug giant said that the new factory of $ 300 million in Rockeville symbolizes his confidence in America’s role as a “global pioneer in science, manufacturing and economic growth.”

“We understand the importance of doing what we are doing because lives and health are at stake,” Bam Cheng, Executive Vice president of Global Operations at Astrazneca, said at the opening of the official website on Monday. “We have chosen this in Maryland because we believe in its amazing talent, its scientific leadership and the spirit of cooperation.”

Once it is run, the site will use a relatively new cancer treatment called Car-T cell treatment to help treat blood cancer such as lymphoma and leukemia.

Andrew Gordon, one of the cancer survivors that were diagnosed in 2013 with multiple myeloma, said he used car cell therapy to combat the disease after relapse.

Gordon said: “This is really the latest divorce for cancer research,” Gordon said. “As a patient, we are very grateful to Estrazzinica for the work they will do here.”

The opening of the new factory comes after the comments made in recent weeks by the CEO of Astrazeneca, Pascal Soriot, about investing in America.
