Atlanta Journal-Constitution ends print newspaper publication, cuts jobs

ATLANTA JOUNANANALSTITION (AJC) announced on Thursday that it will stop publishing a printed newspaper at the end of the year, as it has cut dozens of jobs in this process.

The last printed version will be operated on December 31, and the change will “cancel about 30 full and partial jobs involved in the newspaper design and distribute” with the transformation of Atlanta Journal-ConsTitation to digital publishing only.

“We will start the new year as a full digital institution, as is always the case, to being the most important and attractive source of news for the people of Atlanta, Georgia, and the south,” President Andrew Morse wrote in a letter to the participants.

“This decision now is the best thing we can do in order to ensure that AJC is suitable for the next 157 years as it was the case.”

Morse set up a municipal hall with employees on Thursday to explain the changes, which indicates that this step reflects a shift in the media industry as artificial intelligence re -search online, and news institutions no longer depend on social media platforms to push traffic.

“The good news for us is our entire strategy over the past two and a half years to build direct relationships with customers,” Morse told employee employees.

“The pressure on the work is only accelerating,” said Morse. “The fact that we are growing despite these pressures is a testimony to the hard work that we have done, but we have to put all our efforts in the future.”

This step emphasizes the continuous transformation of the local press, as old papers at the country’s level face the revenue of the hanging advertisements, the decrease in printed subscriptions, the unexpected impact of artificial intelligence and the discovery of news based on algorithm.

Morse also told the New York Times that print papers are no longer an effective way to provide information.

“The fact is that printing newspapers, putting them in trucks, driving them around them, and handing them over to the front parties, was not the most effective way to distribute news for a long time.”

AJC said that the blood circulation reached its peak of more than 600,000 two decades ago, but about 40,000 subscribers are still receiving a printed version.
