Jack Black Breaks Silence On His Biggest Career Regret

The actor has dozens of career highlights in Hollywood, but one role he turned down topped the list of his biggest regrets regarding his journey in the film industry.

Jack Black was in the news last year after his friends and loved ones expressed concerns about his lax attitude towards weight loss in recent years.

The comedian turned a switch on in a confessional about a movie role he wished he’d never left. He revealed that he was offered the role of “Syndrome” in “The Incredibles”, which is one of his favorite films.

Black initially expressed reluctance to answer the question, saying, “Because whoever gets the role next, it’s like, ‘Oh, I was a second choice? I was a sloppy second choice!’ Expanding on his reasons, he admitted that he objected to the one-dimensional nature of the character.

He recalled that he told director Brad Bird, whom he had never heard of at the time, to consider rewriting the character, but the director refused and cut ties with him.

However, Black put that experience aside by sharing a valuable lesson he learned when the film came out. “It was one of the best movies ever made. I was like, ‘Why were you so hard?!’ ,” the actor explained to the CapitalFM hosts.

Well, the rejection of “Syndrome” wasn’t the end of the road for Black, though, as the film has grossed over $600 million since its release and continues to add a sequel and a third, which are currently in development.

Black found his groove on the set of 2003’s “School of Rock,” and continued his streak with 2004’s “Shark Tale,” 2005’s “King Kong,” the double-issue “Nacho Libre,” and 2006’s “The Holiday.”

Two years later, the actor starred in the film “Kung Fu Panda”, and also starred in the film “The Super Mario Bros”, which will be released 15 years later in 2023.

The year concluded with the release of “Anaconda” on Christmas Day, with its star Paul Rudd describing the experience of joining Black on set as the experience of working with his hero. The actor is scheduled to return in another version of “The Super Mario Galaxy” next April.

Black’s approach to staying fit has disappointed his loved ones, who were initially optimistic about his decision to finally start living healthier for the new year.

The Blast noted that in January 2025, he excitedly shared a post of himself doing dumbbell push-ups and promised to keep up with fitness gurus like Dwayne Johnson.

His friends have proven that seven months after this video his commitment is now bleak, and his trips to the gym have done little to produce any positive results.

Sources close to the actor confirmed that he indulges in drinking alcohol and unhealthy eating habits, which exposes him to the risk of developing diabetes and fatty liver, which prevents the body from responding adequately to insulin.
