Attacking Iran Was a War for Trump’s Ego

Let’s start with purification unless Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump with Iran – and yes, was a war – was not a war. It was not a matter of making the United States safer or more prosperous or more respectful and admired around the world. Regardless of what Trump in the social fact or what his loyal family says, it was not a matter of making the Middle East more stable or even about Israel’s long -term protection.
First of all, Iran was not about to obtain a nuclear weapon, as the director of national intelligence, Toulcy Gabbard, told congress before the White House forced it to bend the knee and retreat. Even if Tehran obtained the bomb one day, its leaders were unable to use it against the United States or Israel without national suicide, because Israel has dozens of nuclear bombs and the United States has thousands. Iran’s leaders know this well.
Moreover, as Kenneth Waltz argued in its last published article, the Middle East may be more stable if Iran has its own deterrent. Its security will be strengthened (this means that it will be less in need of relying on the forces of the agent), and the ability of Israel to attack anyone he wants whenever it wants. If you have not noticed, it was Iran that has mercy on Gaza nearly two years ago-along with air strikes in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen-or the slow ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the West Bank, and ending these activities will tend towards the entire region stabilizing. There are good reasons to question the Waltz argument, but at least reasonable, such as claiming that the Iranian bomb will be a disaster of a global change that must be prevented at any cost.
However, if the goal of the war is to prevent Iran from obtaining the bomb, it is likely that it has an opposite effect. Although Trump and his age continue to demand that American attacks were completely successful and destroyed the nuclear infrastructure of Iran, the initial damage assessments concluded that the dropping of all these warehouses has only returned Iran’s efforts to a few months. Not only the main structures within the Fordow facility, but it seems that Iran has been separated and hidden some of the most enriched uranium and retains the ability to enrich it. The attacks seem to have strengthened the two sides in Iran who have long opposed negotiating with the United States and preferred to get their own bomb, and Trump made their arguments more convincing. If Iran gets the bomb in the future, Trump and Netanyahu will deserve most of the blame.
So if this is not a thoughtful effort to prevent Iran from building its own bomb, what was it? Since Israel has started the war, we must start with what its leaders – especially Netanyahu. One of the clear goals was to divert the world’s attention from the war crimes and destruction that Israel committed daily in Gaza, and to a lesser extent, the West Bank. The second purpose was to release negotiations between the United States and Iran, because Israel was concerned that the United States might allow Iran to keep some nuclear infrastructure and because Netanyahu wants to keep Iran and the United States at swords points. Preventing real rapprochement between Washington and Tehran is one of the reasons that Netanyahu opposes the JCOA joint action plan (JCPOA), which the Obama administration hopes to be a first step towards reducing tensions between the United States and Iran. Finally, Israel was hoping to lead the systematic effort to kill senior Iranian officials to change the regime there and perpetuate Israel’s regional domination. As I indicated in the previous column, I think this goal is a dream of a tube, but this does not mean that it was not an increasingly tempting imagination of the Israeli government of Israel. Preserving the area in boiling also helps to keep Netanyahu in power (and outside the prison).
But these points do not explain the reason Trump decided to go in full swing, or why he doubles his allegations that the war has achieved great success. Here there were many clear factors at work.
For beginners, the war is a reminder that the neo -conservatives did not die – at least when it comes to the policy of the American Middle East – and Israel’s Roufa is still a tremendous impact in this field. The lobby-which includes both American Jews who support Israel and the Evangelical Zionists-possess a special relationship between the United States and Israel. In practice, they want the United States to support Israel regardless of what it does and use power for us to make Israel safer. It should be noted that the lobby played a major role in persuading Trump to abandon JCPOA again in 2018, a strategic error that allowed Iran to expand a group of centrifugal devices and its in stock of enriched uranium. At the end of last week, groups such as AIPAC, the Defense Democrats Foundation, and the wealthy political donors such as Myriam Adelesson, politicians such as Foreign Minister Marco Rubio and the US Ambassador to Israel Mike Hackabi ultimately to the attack on Iran have been preferred for a long time. The Americans who were hoping that Trump would listen to the wealthy Arab leaders (who sought to reduce the temperature with Iran in recent years) or to the realists who oppose the new Middle East wars disappointed again. Although Trump is still opposed to the use of the American ground forces, but rather went to the extent that Israel criticized his failure to know “what he was doing”, he also went to war when Israel asked him to join him. In addition to changing ça, in addition to C’est La Même chosen.
However, the Israel Future does not control American policy, and the final decision of the war was still Trump. Here the main factor was Trump’s desire to rest in the interest of attention. He wants to watch and discuss the whole world, and perfectly, praise every step. He is not interested in the real achievements of foreign policy-in concrete achievements that make America safer, more richer or more influential-requires major breakthroughs in foreign policy a real work. Instead, Trump just wants to seem to do great things while he and his comrades themselves. Joining the latest Israeli war put it on top of the headlines again, and bombing other countries is one of those things that many Americans (and even some developed observers) believe that they look “presidential”. It is a realistic show management, where Trump plays the president in the same way as a successful business pole trainee.
Trump’s tendency to put appearances before the results is not new. His first term began by engaging in an online war of words with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, then suddenly announced that they exchanged messages and fell “in love” and they would meet personally. The resulting summits produced a kind of crazy media that Trump enjoys, but the non -prepared negotiations have not led to anywhere, and North Korea’s nuclear weapons stocks have grown steadily since then.
This same problem is clear on many other issues. Look at commercial policy: The media communicates every time that Trump threatens, imposes, is backward, modified, suspended, or re -targeted, yet dozens of “beautiful” commercial deals that he promised to negotiate are never achieved. He says that he will end the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours”, and he renews Ukrainian President Voludmir Zelinski at the Oval Office (saying that the painful meeting was painfully “a wonderful TV”) but he loses his interest when ending the war until it was more difficult than he was expected. He believes that the reformulation of the Gulf of Mexico as “the Gulf of America” is a meaningful achievement, and he was recently delayed a return to the title of “Minister of War” instead of “Minister of Defense”. For Trump, it is the stickers and optics that concern, not the efficiency of senior officials or the effectiveness of the policies they supervise. Achieving concrete results is not the point: the goal is to keep everyone’s eyes on Trump and what he is doing.
This trend should not be surprised by anyone at this stage, because Trump’s entire profession was based on a great ability to persuade millions of people, it is something not on it. Although he was a modest businessman, he was adept at persuading the new wills to lend him money and was wonderful to play a successful giant on TV. He emphasized his re -election again on his ability to reduce millions to believe that he has a vision that makes the country greater, even when his administration disintegrates many institutions on which ordinary Americans rely, build power and influence Americans. Policy in contemporary America has been made for a person like Trump, whose increasing ambition and ignoring the truth are perfectly suitable for a world where the image, clicks and audiences are more important than the facts and achievements.
In short, this war was often related to the president and it should seem to manage everything. Call me from the old style, but this amazes me as a very bad reason to go to war, and it will make the long -term results of the last Trump error this is very clear.
