On Friday, a judge restricted the Trump administration’s authority to take over the control of the police department in Washington, DC, after he proposed the appointment of the head of the drug control department, Terry Cole, to take over the duties of the police chief illegal.
Judge Anna Reyes gave lawyers to the Ministry of Justice and the government of the capital until the early evening to reach an agreement that would limit Cole authority, or to issue a temporary temporary matter.
Reyes, who is appointed by Biden, said that more questions about President Donald Trump’s executive order announces that the crime emergency will be addressed in the country’s capital in a court hearing next week.
In the near future, the Trump administration will continue to largely control the Capital Police Administration regardless of whether it is reaching an agreement with the capital’s government or is subject to a court.

Reyes held the emergency session after he filed a lawsuit against the public prosecutor in the capital, Brian Shawwalb, to prevent Trump operations for law enforcement operations in the capital. Shawalb argued that the move was unconstitutional and violated the Law of the Home Governance, a federal law that gives the residents of the capital the ability to autonomy.
The session was a small setback for the administration, as Reyes indicated that Cole should pass through Mayor Morel Boser to give any other guidance to the police force.
Shawwalb on Friday framing the session as a victory, and told reporters, “His expectation is that the main issue is about controlling [the MPD] It was resolved today, and it is clear, as a legal issue, that the police chief is appointed by the mayor. “
But the law also means that BowSER must be severely postponed to Call, which means that it is likely to be able to continue the police’s priorities in the Trump administration in the capital regarding immigration and displacement for a period of 30 days.
“The president has a lot of discretionary authority in determining what is necessary and appropriate.”
Bowser and DEL. Eleanor Holmes Norton, DD.C, the session at the E. Barrett Pretterman Federal. Outside the building, dozens gathered to protest against the federal acquisition, which also included the activation of hundreds of National Guard soldiers in the capital, more demonstrators, including the “Free DC” movement, appeared inside the courtroom, confirming the tension that arose on Trump’s orders.
“What we know is that the residents of the capital are concerned and anxious, and we have an increase of federal officers,” Bousser told reporters. “president [Pamela] Smith’s function this week was to make sure that if we had and while there are federal officers, they are used strategically. “

At the beginning of the session, Reyes noted that she would be the first judge to temporarily judge the president’s authority to control the Capital Police Department under the Internal Governance Law since congress approved legislation in 1973, which confirms the importance of the case.
The judge explained that she did not immediately plan to judge whether there was an emergency of the crime, as Trump mentioned in his executive order, but there is some temporary decision.
“I want to reach a practical solution because the time is short and there are people who need to know who take the direction of and what they do,” Reyes told both parties.
Reyes, who became known as a fast -paced court that keeps the two toes on his toes, struck a tone of moderation on Friday.
“I do not think that the statute is tight as you think or wide, as Mr. Ruth believes,” she told lawyer Mitchell Rish, who argued on behalf of the public prosecutor in the capital.
Shawwal’s lawsuit was stabbed in Trump’s executive order that DC was temporarily applied under Article 740 of the INS and Public Prosecutor Pam Bondi on Thursday, which sought to install Cole Call Emergency Commissioner for the Capital Police Force. The Shawalb office argued that the moves were unprecedented and could “display operational ruins” in the police station.
Shawalb urged the Trump administration’s orders to prevent the orders of the Trump administration, saying that the temporary acquisition of the federal government on the Capital Police under the Internal Governance Law “does not allow this usurped the power of the boycott over its government.”

“They are violating the right of boycott in autonomy and putting the safety of the residents of the capital and visitors at risk,” he said.
Critics have excited in Trump’s executive matter, on the pretext that it does not reflect any real emergency in the country’s capital, which has witnessed a decrease in violent crimes (although exactly what remains, the point of disagreement).

Lawyer Nurim Eisen, the former White House, during the era of President Barack Obama, told reporters on Thursday that Trump’s order in the capital is the latest in a “pattern of attacks on the rule of law” in his second term as a president, all of which involves declaring various forms of “emergency” as a way to avoid natural policy -making operations.
Eisen said Trump “declared a fake emergency” in the capital. There is no “emergency” that is predicted by this procedure with MPD or the Federal Army.
