Belkin ends support for most Wemo devices and its Wemo app

On another day, another smart device bites the dust – or, in this case, a full range of smart home appliances.

On Thursday, BELKIN Consumer Electronics said it would end the technical support for the oldest WEMO products from January 31, 2026, and that the application used to control devices will not be supported. The decision will affect a group of devices, including smart plugs, light switches, smart lamps, baby screens, kitchen tools, heaters, clean air, motion sensors, and more.

In an email to the customers, the outfit explained his decision, saying that he needs to convert his focus to another place.

“This decision was not taken lightly,” says email. “Over the past decade, since BELKIN was first launched in 2011, we have committed to providing consumers with innovative and simple accessories for a smooth smart home experience. However, with the development of technology, we must focus our resources on different parts of Belkin’s business.”

The company added: “We understand that this change may disrupt your routine, and we apologize sincerely for the inconvenience.”

Belkin says products that are still under guarantee by the end of life date may be eligible for a partial recovery and that their products are formed for use with the homekit from Apple will continue to work even without the cloud WEMO services and the Wemo application. The application will also not be supported after January 31, 2026, and no device features that depend on cloud communication, such as remote access or audio integration, will not work.

The company will not provide technical support, fixed programs, software updates, or help to explore and repair errors after January 31.

The transition to end a line of smart home products leaves consumers without access to technology that has become integrated in their daily lives – this is not just a child game in non -communication mode; It is more necessary. It has become increasingly common for companies to end support for their oldest smart home products without any technical reason to do so. Instead, these moves allow companies – as Belkin alludes to – re -focus their efforts in more profitable areas of their business.

Google recently announced a similar step in its decision to close the older Nest devices, for example.

In April, the technology giant said it would not support its first generation of learning thermostat. As of October 25, 2025, the NST models of the first and second generation will see its connected features closed, stop receiving updates, no longer work with the Nest or Google Home app, and mainly become “stupid” devices.

Instead of allocating resources to support its customer base, it is easier to send a break to help them upgrade to a newer version. In the case of NST, this is $ 130 off the fourth nesting thermostat, which is usually $ 279.99. Although this may be a good deal, forcing the upgrade due to the statute of limitations does not extend well with many customers whose devices are still working well, despite their age.

However, this process protects Google from facing collective procedures claims, which may lead to the closure of many smart devices and the NST application simultaneously. By pushing these customers from the NST application and motivating them to upgrade to the latest devices, Google can argue that using old devices was somewhat low whether a lawsuit was filed. This can reduce any fines or compensation that can lead such a lawsuit to facilitate Google, and may be closed at the end.

In addition, providing an advanced notice of customers about these types of moves reduces the company’s legal risks.

In the case of Belkin, customers who all went on Wemo will be greatly affected for their smart house and perhaps very angry, too, if they are not eligible to recover partial funds.

Belkin has provided a full list of affected devices, which includes a wide range of smart home products that extend to multiple categories.

Belkin notes that its decision does not affect the Wemo -based products (SKUS WLS0503, WDC010, WSC010, WSP100), which will continue to work as you do today through Apple HomeKit.
