Besiktas make £12m bid for Wolves’ Emmanuel Agbadou, personal terms agreed

Wolverhampton Wanderers have received an offer for an important player, who has already agreed personal terms to join a new club.

Wolves need to sell before they can buy this month

Rob Edwards has confirmed that Wolves may have to sell before buying during the January transfer window, saying: “We might have to do that. It depends on what else we want to try and bring in. There are different ways to do it, whether it’s buying or loaning.

“Of course January could be very difficult anyway. With the situation we are in, we have to be smart with who we bring in.

“We want to bring in people who want to be here and feel like they can really impact it, and we feel like they can impact it, too. But if we want to spend some money, we might have to generate some of that as well.”

Edwards is yet to bring in any new signings, with the Old Gold yet to capitalize on any of their players, despite interest in the likes of striker Jorgen Strand-Larsen and midfielder Joao Gomez.

Emmanuel Agbadu has also attracted interest, as it was recently revealed that the defender has agreed personal terms to move to Besiktas, and there is now a new update on his future at Molineux.

Besiktas have now made a bid of €14m (£12m) plus bonuses for the centre-back (via Sport Witness), but it is unclear whether Wolves are willing to accept the offer, journalist Jagiz Saboncuoglu has stated.

Having paid €20m (£17m) to sign Agbado last year, the Old Gold would make a loss if they chose to accept the current offer, but there is a feeling they could be ‘eager’ to move on.

Losing Agbado could be a huge blow to Wolves

This is probably the right decision to cash in on the Ivorian, given that there is little point in keeping a player who wants to leave, but losing him could be a problem, as he has impressed at times since arriving from Reims last year.

The £85,000-a-week defender was praised for his performance on his debut against Bristol City last season, with former manager Vitor Pereira saying: “He was consistent. Playing on the left side and not playing on the left foot is not easy.”

Wolverhampton Wanderers' Toti Gomes looks dejected as Jurgen Strand-Larsen and Emmanuel Agbado applaud the fans after the match.

The 18-time Ivory Coast international has also shown his ability to regain possession regularly over the past year, averaging 2.16 tackles per 90, which places him in the 92nd percentile, compared to his peers in the positions.

Although Wolves have improved in recent weeks, earning their first Premier League win of the season against West Ham United, relegation still seems almost inevitable, meaning there could be big changes in the coming months, and Agbado’s move to Besiktas could be one of many strikes.
