‘Blatantly untrue’: RIL denies reports of Russian crude oil shipments to Jamnagar refinery
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has rejected reports claiming that three ships carrying Russian crude oil are on their way to the company’s Jamnagar refinery. RIL said it has not received any such shipments in recent weeks and does not expect to deliver Russian crude oil in January.
This denial comes after a Bloomberg report indicated that the refinery is scheduled to receive shipments of Urals crude from Russia this month.
On social media platform The company also confirmed that its Jamnagar refinery has not received any Russian oil shipment for about three weeks and does not expect one to arrive in January.
A Reliance spokesman confirmed to Bloomberg that the refinery does not expect Russian crude deliveries this month and has not purchased any for January.
Reliance Industries expressed frustration with the report, saying: “We are deeply hurt that those who claim to be at the forefront of fair journalism have chosen to ignore RIL’s denial of purchasing any Russian oil to be delivered in January and published a false report that tarnishes our image,” highlighting their objection to the coverage.
The Bloomberg report in question cited data from analytics firm Kpler, which tracks tanker movements using live signals from ship captains. According to the report, the shipments were classified as being provided by traders Alghaf Marine DMCC, Redwood Global Supply FZ LLC, RusExport and Ethos Energy.
Among the mentioned suppliers, Alghaf Marine and Redwood Global were subject to sanctions by the United Kingdom. Al Ghaf Marine is the successor to the Middle East branch of Litasco, a trading unit of Lukoil that has been sanctioned by the United States.
In November 2025, RIL announced that it would stop using Russian crude in the export-focused portion of its Jamnagar refinery. From January to November last year, Russian oil accounted for 40% of the refinery’s imports, the report said.
The Bloomberg story noted that the tankers were filled with 2.2 million barrels of Ural crude and may have been on their way to Jamnagar, but it also said that final destinations may change as the ships approach India.
