BRICS in the ‘America First’ Era

What does Washington’s dominant mood “America first” mean for Berkes?

While its leaders meet at Rio de Janeiro this week, the columns are not eligible. US President Donald Trump has aimed at a group of 10 countries, and threatened to impose a 100 percent tariff on its member states if they tried to get rid of the US dollar from its global dominant role. Washington has also climbed a trade war and an introductory war around the world, including against almost all BRICS countries. A member of the BRICS, Iran, recently topped a fierce military attack from the United States. Can the Brex survive this attack, and what should it do to stay relevant in a new world?

What does Washington’s dominant mood “America first” mean for Berkes?

While its leaders meet at Rio de Janeiro this week, the columns are not eligible. US President Donald Trump has aimed at a group of 10 countries, and threatened to impose a 100 percent tariff on its member states if they tried to get rid of the US dollar from its global dominant role. Washington has also climbed a trade war and an introductory war around the world, including against almost all BRICS countries. A member of the BRICS, Iran, recently topped a fierce military attack from the United States. Can the Brex survive this attack, and what should it do to stay relevant in a new world?

Brics is not an official international organization but rather a loose alliance of what I called “World East” (Russia and China) and a group of global southern states. After its first leaders in 2009, such as Brazil-Russia-Endia-China, it quickly added South Africa to become BRICS. After 2012, five new members (Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates) were added, and a group of less partner countries was announced. Brics undoubtedly appeared as a major growth story. By combining high aspiration, flexibility and effectiveness, the BRICS can yet appear as a major problem for the international system.

First, the global system, under US leadership, fails on multiple fronts in solving global problems – which are doubled by a comprehensive tariff attack in Washington. Second, the unipolar decline and a very volatile external policy of the United States made an unreliable partner, which caused a sharp universal uncertainty. When uncertainty is high, the rational motivation is to spread risks and invest in alternative structures.

Did the BRICS make a difference in the world order? The presence of a club that does not include any state from the global north is a bold experience that should not be rejected. It can be a hook for all types of initiatives to appear on the road. Also, the group assurances of the group (in annual summit ads) about the main issues on economic rule and political geography are important in strengthening or challenging global standards.

But when it comes to material effects on the ground, successes are still very limited. The greatest achievements in the financing of development, as the new Development Bank (NDB) has achieved a modest splash. Although NDB lending is about 4 billion dollars a year much lower than the World Bank, the BRICS Bank works for a decade, while maintaining high international credit rating. NDB also integrates innovative governance practices that differ from the World Bank, such as the lack of one controlling shareholder, a presidency that revolves between the five Brics members, and the dependence of Qatari standards on work and the environment in its projects.

While the leaders of the BRICS meet in Rio, Brazil gave priority to cooperation between the south and south, global health, climate work, and multiple parties. However, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend. This gives the global southern component of Brexis an opportunity to direct the summit.

Logically, “America first” promotes the logical basis of only. Arranging unity and accidental abandonment of international law when it comes to areas such as the Middle East and squares such as the global commercial call for the stability of the antibiotic that can enhance the rules of cooperation. The global southern states, as weaker actors, depend more, on international cooperation in their attempts to achieve security and prosperity for their people.

But the rebellious mood in Washington indicates that the BRICS should take care if it avoids undermining it in the coming years. This calls for a three aspect strategy of reassurance, retreat, and reinforcement.

The Brexes can also be impressed by Washington that even as it turns inward, the burdens still must be shared to solve global problems, in which there is no unimaginable march in which anything about the election results in the United States. Brexes can play a constructive role in this regard by helping to provide a more stable world with less chances of mass migration, terrorism and organized crime. All this is prominent in the American national interest.

Second, the BRICS needs to reduce its agenda in the kitchen. Recently, its initiatives and assurances have expanded to include many areas. A group that is still not available without official secretariat or employees always take some difficult options if it wants to be more effective.

The most difficult areas for Brexes are political geography and difficult security. These spaces can inflate the internal differences within the assembly – uncommon, as the BRICS is originally designed for economic governance, not security.

Brexes can easily achieve unanimity on the war of Russia-Ukraine. It also took an impressive strong position on violations in the Israeli war, Hamas and recently (with Brazil as president) on the attacks on Iran. However, the main violations of international law are necessary to summon, the BRIX will need to choose its carefully on crises and future wars.

The reduction, if done properly, can open the door more easily for the third jamming of the strategy – knowledge. The BRICS is still more closely relevant to a more balanced and stable global arrangement. This means a decrease in the fields of version as BRICS has comparative advantages and can achieve the greatest effect.

Development financing tops the list. This mainly means laser -like focus on NDB strengthening. BRICS focus on infrastructure and sustainability on a goal right. However, its membership can be expanded (open to all United Nations countries) faster. As a comparative point, the Chinese -dominated Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank includes more than 100 members. NDB, which was founded before AIIB, has only nine. The expansion of NDB membership should be accompanied by a steady increase in lending levels and the implementation of faster projects on the ground.

BRICS also has opportunities to expand in two basic fields that the United States evacuated the United States: climate and global health. In climate change, the global north tends to focus mostly on mitigation. Brics can focus exclusively on adaptation and flexibility, as the gaps in financing and exchange of knowledge are really enormous, and the needs of the global south are the most urgent.

China contributes greatly to climate financing, but it is still classified as a developing country in climate negotiations. World Brexes of the Brexes can persuade Beijing to take official climate change. With the height of the meteorite, China can no longer be considered the world south, and its responsibilities must develop accordingly.

With the resignation of Washington, the World Health Organization, and hostile to vaccines, the BRICS is in a unique position to develop its current initiatives in this field. China and India are already among the great powers world vaccine. The conversion of the current BRICS vaccine and development center into a strong and effective institution with bricks and mortars (as happened in NDB) is a major contribution.

Finally, the BRICS countries unanimously form the defense of the global trading order. Despite the failure of foreign ministers to issue a joint statement in April, the president’s statement from Brazil confirmed the consensus of the clear group on trade. This message must be repeated at every opportunity. As a concrete step, BRICS members should aim to partly of the multi -party arbitration arrangement (a voluntary body formed to reduce the mixed Logjam in the United States in the World Trade Conflict Mechanism) to join it as soon as possible. They should also continue to move forward in the integration of trade and the mechanisms of facilitation and their own areas.
