CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon quits as potential Trump lawsuit settlement looms

CEPS Wendy McMahon CEO said on Monday that she resigned after four years, and the latest repercussions in the network as her mother company considers a lawsuit with President Donald Trump during an “60 -minute” interview with his former political opponent.

“It has become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward. It is time to move forward in this organization to move forward with a new leadership.”

McMahon explained that she opposes the settlement with Trump – just like “60 minutes”, the executive producer Bill Owens, who resigned last month.

Trump sued CBS, claiming that he had edited an interview with 2024 Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris last fall. CBS News has denied it. The parent company, Paramount Global, is holding Trump’s lawsuit to settle the Trump suit. Meanwhile, Paramount Global seeks to obtain management approval to combine Skydance Media.

George Shakes, a co -co -cibski and head of the CBS network, said that senior deputies in McMahon, President of CBS News Tom Cibrowski and head of CBS stations, will submit a report to him directly.

“The past few months have been difficult.”

She said: “I have spent the past few months to increase our business and make sure that there are the right leaders, and I have no doubt that they will continue to set the standard.”

In addition to the conflict with Trump, the dominant shareholder in Paramount, Shari Redston, expressed the misery of some network coverage of the Israel War in Gaza, including a “60 -minute” piece this winter. Paramount began supervising the stories of “60 minutes” in new ways, including for former CBS News President Susan Zerinski to search for some of her stories before broadcasting them.

This additional layer contributed to the resignation of Owens. “None of us is happy” about the changes.

CBS News is also trying to create a new anchor team for John Dicrson and Maurice Duba in its broadcast of Major “CBS Evening News” amid the classification problems.

In his observation of employees, the cheeks praised McMahon to expand local news at CBS stations and improve their competitive positions, as well as improving the digital offers of the network.

Despite the internal tensions, the broadcasting “60 minutes” has significantly difficult stories about the Trump administration, and it drew the anger of the president. He attacked the show after one episode in April. The president said on social media: “Almost every week, 60 minutes … The name” Trump “is mentioned in a humiliating and delicious way.”

At the end of the Sunday season of “60 minutes”, a story that has been appointed and publicly announced was not broadcast on discounts in the service of internal revenue. A spokeswoman for this said that on Friday, CBS learned that the Tax Authority Command told senior employees that she had decided to contact about 7,000 employees under observation to work.

CBS said it would continue to report the details and broadcast the story at some point in the future.

Trump’s settlement with Paramount has precedent. In December, Walt Disney decided to pay $ 15 million to end Trump’s defamation lawsuit against ABC News regarding a statement issued by the network, George Stefanubulus, on the issue of sexual assault against Trump.

The new administration was fighting with the media on several fronts, including:

– In a court battle with Associated Press due to the reducing arrival because the agency did not follow Trump’s desires to rename the Gulf of Mexico.

-The efforts to close the government -run news services such as Voice of America.

Financing financing for public broadcasting.
